2004 Already a HUGE year for Prince Well I guess all the "Prince is dead" talk can end. In the music business, unfortunately, it is more important to be seen than to be heard and Prince has been seen everywhere lately.
Things that seemed like pipe dreams to us hardcore Prince fans are now a reality (A Prince concert played at local Movie Theater? Headlining the Grammys? A tour in the round?) I know that a lot of people are wondering how the album is gonna sell, but I think that, in many ways, that is besides the point. The point is that the general public knows that Prince is still a force in this day and age. We can argue for ever about his past greatness, or if he can top Purple Rain, etc. However, the "Musicology" project is already a success in many ways. If nothing else, it has proved that Prince is still a vital force in the business even after being "underground" for nearly 10 years. Now can you imagine what will happen if Musicology is a "hit" (whatever that is)? I think the whole damn world my turn purple. "New Power slide...."

Personally, I think it's a grand gesture that Prince has decided to sacrifice potential sales in
exchange for putting the music in the public's hand. I say "thank you and good luck".

For the record there are concerts in movie theaters EVERY week by different artists. I think this week the same theaters that are playing Prince's movie are playing Kenny Chesney. It's a very common move these days and an easy way to make money and satisfy fans.
Also, a tour in the round is not a dream of mine. It now means my seats are only 1/4 as good. . [This message was edited Sun Mar 7 13:25:45 2004 by lovemachine]

I just called the theater here in MPLS (Brookly Center) and the manager told me that tix are selling faster than he's ever seen them. "New Power slide...."

his new album should be in top 20 album but i doubt it will be in top 10 album. but i could be wrong. he needs a hit new single which he's been lacking for like 10yrs or something.
that song musicology is very dissapointing in my personal view. Too much horn and it may appease his older fan base who are into James brown thang. even cher came back with a hit single, so i dont understand how prince cant come up with something new and fresh hit.

Prince is saying, in his best stereotypical Mexican bandit voice, "Hits, I don't need no stinkin' hits".
If nothing else, Prince is proving you don't need a single or album topping the charts or an upcoming court date, to create a buzz or to be hot. It doesn't hurt that he's one of the best live performers out there, and fine as hell.
