Great but inducted by OutKast and Alicia Keys?!

What about George, James, Chaka or Stevie? Hell, even D'angelo would be better!

Does this also apply for the UK as well, or is this just for VH1 in the USA???

Check out what VH-1 says about him

The word "genius" doesn't do him justice. He's been a funkateer, showman, provocateur, guru, entrepreneur, slave, and, ultimately, unclassifiable enigma. He takes on the big topics - like sex and God and politics and sex and God - blending them into a wondrous songbook that splits the difference between pop and R&B. Simply put: the world would be much less interesting without him".

My question is how can the fans by apart of this celebration? Did tickets go on sale to the public? How does one get to be a part of the "concert"?

I can't wait till Mar 21st to see him and I hope he tears the roof off the sucker. I'm so excited for him I can't hardly redeem myself. I, myself, am glad that Alicia Keys is going to induct him into the Hall of Fame. I like Outcast, but I think I would have rather it been someone else too, but right now I can't even think who? All I want to see is him get his props and I want to see him get more achievements such as this because Prince is so underrated.

Congratulations P.

No - it says "EST" not "GMT". Couldn't find any UK listing for it yet.

Is this right, i wouldn't think so.

VH-1 says this pic is from the 2004 rock and roll hall of fame induction ceremony:

I ask because of the word "slave" on his face.

I think mostly music industry people get to attend. I did hear of one person on NPGMC who said he had ticket(s). However, he could be in the music industry. I don't know.

Supposedly tickets are around $2500 apiece.

WELL FOLKS I REALLY DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OUTKAST OR ALICIA, THIS SHOWS PRINCE'S RELEVANCE AND IMPACT ON ARTISTS OF TODAY, BIG ARTISTS TO SAY THE LEAST, ALICIA'S 1ST ALBUM WENT PLATINUM 1O TIMES OVER AND OUTKAST CANT'T GET OFF THE RADIO. THEY BOTH DRAW SIGNIFIGANT INFLUENCES FROM PRINCE. WE KNOW THERE COULD BE TONS OF PEOPLE TO INDUCT HIM. YES THEY WENT FOR CURRENT AND HOT ARTISTS, THOUGH THATS NOT NECCESARILY A BAD THING. THESE PARTICULAR ARTISTS HAVE BEEN PRAISING PRINCE FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS NOW IN THE PRINT AND TELEVISION MEDIA. NOW THEY CAN EXTEND THEIR THANKS OFFICIALLY

During the Musicology press conference, Prince said he would likely open the show, and would be given an extended amount of time to "do his thing".

Dear VH1:
Please don't butcher this by editing it and cutting something out!

Are you sure...this is what i find at the link

"Tune-in Sunday, March 21 at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Every year the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame convenes to celebrate rock’s premier artists and pioneers. This year’s inductees are a mixed bag of heartland rockers, funky-pop sex freaks, Texas boogiemen, sensitive singer-songwriters and even include an ex-Beatle. Solo artists George Harrison, Prince, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne, all got the nod as did Steve Winwood’s Traffic, R&B group The Dells and the little band from the Lone Star state; ZZ Top"

No, VH1 doesn't say that. Just like with theother 62 pics in the flipbook, VH1 says that it is a picture of an artist inducted in 2004.

second pic: Prince and Beyonce in action
from Grammy Awards 2004

third pic: Prince and Beyonce do it up on "Purple Rain"
from Grammy Awards 2004

those pics were right.

From official Rock 'N' Roll website:

Prince – Self-produced since his debut at age 20, Prince is one of the most unpredictable as well as one of the most magnificently charismatic figures in the entire pop landscape. His fusion of rock, funk, soul, metal and punk has defied all stereotypes.

D'angelo? lol

It's good to have talented young people he influenced induct him. Like I said before it shows that he is still relevant. If you have George, James...etc. do it the message is that yes he was great but he's also finished. Yeah, I'm oversimplifying it but part of you would think that too because these people are far past their primes.

George: there's a reason he's not w/P no mo...besides, George has been in this bid'ness for at least 50 years and he had his hurrah at the Grammys.

James: uh, yeah. Same thang. He got his Kennedy honor, then proceeded to beat up on yet another wife. Damn, JB!

D'angelo is NOT relevant (when was the last album?)

Alicia gave MUCHO props to Adore...and her new song sounds like the Three Degrees or some "I gotta rap to you baby" song from the 70s -- when rap to you meant trying to get booty.

And you're not oversimplifying it at all: remember this is a business...Beyonce is the hottest thing around and she can sing and she has hips! smile

HOW CAN YOU SAY GEORGE AND JAMES ARE FINISHED WHEN THEY STILL PERFORMING? GEORGE SINCE 56' AND JAMES SINCE THE EARLY 50'S. YOU CRAZY!

ONE DAY PRINCE WILL BE IN HIS 60'S AND 70'S WILL HE BE FINISHED THEN IF HE STILL CHOOSES TO USE HIS TALENT??

No they weren't. That was the first year, in each case, that they were eligible (25 years after their first record release).

I'm not well-educated on Sly And The Family Stone . . . I mean, I know of their "hits", but were they really THE SHIT? Did they have a lot of albums, or only a few? Thanks for any info . . and, btw, I do love the 3 or 4 songs I know from them.

As for Alicia Keys and Outkast inducting Prince, no, of course they're not the FIRST choices, but they're damn good (read: current) artists.

Any idea if Prince will perform in the traditional "jam" session? I'd love to see him out there, with either the Hohner or Cloud (not Habibi, PLEASE!). Just jammin' away, NOT stealing the spotlight, just goin' with the flow, until it's his turn to TURN IT OUT.

We can dream, can't we? smile

You can go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland and see the whole four-hour telecast (simulcast) for only $10. Go to ticketmaster on the web, but I don't know if there are tickets left.
