What's the Fuss about him singing Bambi????

I see most people are in an uproar about Prince performing Bambi on Ellen because it may offend people. What the fuck is that all about? It's one of HIS songs and if he wants to sing it, dammit sing it. If anyone is offened, fuck 'em. How does that sound?

ELLEN'S PRODUCER:"Prince, can you come on the show and sing a few of your tunes? Can you try not to sing Bambi because it may offend some of our viewers"

PRINCE .....

Maybe it's just me, but this sounds silly. What if the host of a certain show is an atheist and Prince comes on and sings "The Cross/Christ"?

Now if he sings "Short People" to Gary Coleman and Emmanuel Lewis, then he's being an asshole for sure!!! razz

Holla if you hear me.

Personally I love Bambi. But what kind of new lyrics do you think he would invent for that one. If he changed sexual to spiritual in I Feel For You what would he change in Bambi?

He shouldn't change them. The lyrics to Bambi have never offended me.

Because it's got the potential to work against the groundswell he seems to be trying to produce for a change.

Whether the song's lyrics are a slam or not, being mindful of the potential to offend is the first step in a PR campaign. And, make no mistake about it, when Prince says on a talk show, "Bring your whole family," he's really saying, "I've matured and toned down." He's campaigning against his rowdy boy image.

There's nothing to suggest that Ellen didn't show some sort of approval of that song, being a fan from way back, but there's just a lot of room for misunderstanding in that kind of situation. Audience members usually are protective of "their" hosts. It'd be like performing "Work that Fat" on Oprah's show.

Okay, do we even know for sure that he played that? I have my doubts. Fans were speculating and joking he would play that song as soon as the Ellen thing was announced, so I think its just as rumour that got out of control.

Unless he played this on a portion of the show that wasn't televised, I think this is all just a stupid rumor.

He did in fact play Bambi and it was not televised. It was discussed in several places on the official boards. One post mentioned that the crowd seemed uncomfortable during Bambi and that Ellen was not out and about while he played that song.

To me it's a great song, but Prince got it all wrong! It doesn't offend me, because it's just too stupid thinking this way! I totally disagree on his opinion. You can't change a queer into a straight person or visa versa! (I'm gonna show you what's it's like to be loved by a man. You where untrue?! haha this is real funny!) But it rocks!

I would play this song in front of my friend, who happens to be a lesbian. I'm sure she wouldn't be offended at all. To me he doesn't have to change anything to this song. I just hope sincerly that he doesn't mean it. I completly understand that you write these lyrics from a 18 year olds perspective! Lyrically completly out of date. It's 2004, wake up!
