How do you explain your hetrosexual admiration for one of the most ambiguious artists in music?

My friends always say I'm obsessed and know way too much about dude. Sometime I feel like I'm the only Hetrosexual Male Prince Fan on the face of the earth!!!

I'm a heterosexual male and I absolutely love Prince's music. Prince helped me to understand that is was perfectly acceptable for a straight man to not concern himself with Machismo or societal expectations of masculinity. Prince showed that all men were not this one monolithic thing. In Prince's world Men can be sexy, "have feminine characteristics", be in touch with their feminine side etc, and not be gay. Moreover, he was one of the few male artists that explored his depth and love for women. Song's like Adore, If I Was Your Girlfriend, The Beautiful Ones, Girl, How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore, Forever In My Life, When U Were Mine etc. are refreshing in a world where men try to hide their vulnerability.(Miles Davis' Music has that same quality, vulnerability) My understanding of Prince's music has helped me understand women on a deeper level and it has increased their adoration for me. Most women I encounter appreciate a man that likes/understands a "sensitive brotha" like Prince. I could care less what my male friends or men in general think, I'm too much into women.

thumbs up!

On the point.

Discussion over.

sorry but isnt the writer of the thread implying that peeps think u must b gay to really really like a male artist !

Yes, and I think he's relating an attitude that many of us have encountered.

One of the most moronic things ever said to me was after I had told a particular person I was a Prince fan, and they had given me the obligatory look of total incredulity, they then said "Oh, you must be gay then". The only correct response to such a statement is "Fuck off, you moron".

I would have added, "unless I'm fucking you my sexuality is none of your business."

I laugh when people call Prince gay. He's written more songs about boffing the opposite sex than anyone else. He's about as un-gay as possible with his songwriting.

Anyway, I'm a straight, heterosexual 45-year-old male who has been a Prince fan since "Soft and Wet", mainly because he is the best, most imaginative musician I have ever seen.

"First he boffed her, then he f***ed her." "Boffing and f***ing are the same thing." "They are?"

You're not the only one, dude. I'm a musician whose entire inspiration has been Prince, and I'm straight. How can one not admire someone who is musically the equivalent of the Mozart of our time?

i'm very hetero, maybe too hetero for some. i'm not a big fan of what he wears on stage and all that but I look beyond that because of his musical talents.
why i totally respect his musical talents.
i find him to be incredibly gifted in music and i put him up there with any top musician of all time.

- Well ...the androgynous things that Prince does always turned me off. I would prefer much more if he had a cool-but-male look of guys like Hendrix, Miles and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was even glad that his Grammy performance wasn´t embarassing.
I am a fan of him for his music and showmanship, but I would prefer if he acted more ´straight´. No prejudice against gay people, but I am being honest.

Straight male myself.

But I think Luther Campbell (a.k.a. Luke Skywalker... creator of 2 Live Crew) put Prince's personae in the right perspective when he said "Damn... I thought I could pull the women, but Prince got ALL THE WOMEN screaming for him!!!"

Made that comment after attending a Prince concert.

Prince may be weird, eccentric and sometimes effiminate... but the way I see it, there's way too many women who have the hots for Prince for him to be gay.

I'm str8 and if there's 1 man on earth that i love is Prince...ambigous dont' think so but take care of urself, look good 4 the opposite sex is fine 2 me and if that means 2 b in touch with ur feminine side that's cool with me...Hey i like 2 look good 4 my lover so i do whatever i can 2 look even prettier...And don't even say prince is gay coz trust me in the world that we live that would b the 1st thing the press and paparazzies would say if he was gay...but in the other hand he was caught having sex with mayte in a public theater, being locked up with claudia schiffer in prince's apartment 4 2 days and what they say they only ordered fruits and water...so i don't think they have been talking 2 days i mean c'mon we know prince...international lover...

I LOVE ALL ABOUT HIM...HIS PERSONA, STYLE MUSIC AND HE'S 1 OF MY ROLE MODELS ALONG LENNY KRAVITZ.
AND LIKE I ALWAYS SAY: SAY IT LOUD I'M A PRINCE FAN AND I'M PROUD!
PEACE
Say it loud eye'm a prince fam and eye'm proud

I am a straight male ( and very good with the women I must say ) but I never once thought Prince perfered anything but women. Regardless of the heels, make up whatever, he is the definition of a woman worshiper. I dont care who favours what, never did, I would never look at some one in a different light because of thier taste. I dont even like the term gay, its silly, its another label that has nothing to do with the person as a person. I hate how men have to use it and break the news to thier friends like its a friendship threatening quality, like saying I just murdered two hundred children. I think we need to get off it and focous on real things that effect our lives. I wonder how many years its gonna take until we can finally put this subject to bed, hell we still fight with people with different skin colour, its been what, thousands of years? I feel bad for these men and women, they are just at the begining of a long war. I guess I got off subject and im sorry but I just wanted to vent a little. Peace to all, and I pray for the day this subject is no more.
