I'm a straight white Georgia boi....go figure...I could really care less how or with whom Prince gets an orgasm (or anyone else for that matter)...all I'm concerned with is his music....thats what is real and that is what matters...

ThreadBare

I'm straight and have listened to P's music for about 20 years. One of my best friends in high school was a crazier fan, used to dress like him (down to the hair, which was extremely brave of a brother in the 1980s in a predominantly black school). He had a lot more explainin' to do than I. falloff

Musicians are granted a lot more leeway. And, when you're a black teen playing guitar in your school's stage band, folks assume you're a Prince fan based on skin color alone (ironic, given Prince's early comparisons to Hendrix instead of to Santana -- but I digress). But most people have enough sense to separate musical admiration and sexual attraction. lol The premise of this thread, I think, misses that point and ties too much to Prince's image and sexual ambiguity.

Male musicians also, if straight, are assumed (often perjoratively) to be ladies men. So -- unless we're primping in mirrors all the live-long day or batting our eyes at someone and cooing, "Owoowah!" coquettishly -- people aren't going to assume that being a Prince fan has shaped our sexuality one way or another. He might be ambiguous, but that doesn't mean his heterosexual fans are.

I am a male heterosexual.

I have never even thought of describing my admiration for him as 'heterosexual'.

Moreover, I've never considered Prince to be 'ambiguous' in terms of his own sexuality, although I can see why some people get confused - and invariably I find they were already confused anyway.

Straight white male, fan since I was 12-13 years old and "Little Red Corvette" was all over the music video shows.

Not many people understand Prince. (That aren't die hard fans). Most think he's flamboyantly gay, almost none know he's married (or even for the 2nd time). Most have never heard him speak, and dwell on the "high" voice from the song "Kiss".

Why don't you just get straight to the point instead of farting around the issue?

Question: Are there any straight men in the Org?

Answer: Yes.

Example: Me.

sorry but isnt the writer of the thread implying that peeps think u must b gay to really really like a male artist !

Yes, and I think he's relating an attitude that many of us have encountered.

One of the most moronic things ever said to me was after I had told a particular person I was a Prince fan, and they had given me the obligatory look of total incredulity, they then said "Oh, you must be gay then". The only correct response to such a statement is "Fuck off, you moron".

It's sad but true that many people who don't know any better view Prince and Prince fans as sexually ambiguous, or gay. A bit brain-dead of them really, considering that for the past 20 years or so, magazines and papers around the world have shown thousands of pictures of Prince with various women wrapped around him, and not one (that I'm aware of) with a man wrapped around him.

Non Prince fans seem to care a great deal, not only about Prince's sexuality, but about the sexuality (and mental stability) of Prince fans...

As long as we enjoy the music, it doesn't matter what our sexual prefference, right?

and sadly non Prince fans just don't seem to get that.

It's heartening (although not surprising) to hear that there are other straight male Prince fans out there who feel as if they're the only one - Me too! In fact, and I find this really fucking sad, I have never even met another Prince fan in person (outside of a Prince concert, that is)! Sad, isn't it. OK, I've met people who like Prince, have an album or two, but never another 'career' Prince fan. Sometimes I think I'm the only Prince fan in Ireland. I know I'm not because his concerts always sell out here!
Where the hell are all these fans, and why have I never met any of them? sigh

I guess after 20 years I'm finally getting used to the weird looks and attitudes people give me when I tell them I'm a Prince fan.
What still gets to me is when they ask why. wall I sometimes even give a polite answer to that question.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I have been a fan from the start of his career and in te early days, you took a beating if you were a guy and loved Prince. I didnt care. The chicks dug him and they seemed to dig the fact that I knew the music and had the look (I was a teenager). Prince got too much pussy for any of those "fag" rumors to stick on him or his straight man fan base. It actually helped me get girls.

If you are brave and stand up for yourself - like Prince always has - you have no problem
...cause FACE said so!!!

I'm a heterosexual male Prince fan, and I've never been the least bit ashamed to say so.

I find his androgynous qualties absolutely fascinating, and I think it's great that he shows no fear towards showcasing his femininity.

I've never liked the typical homophobic guy who's petrified to admit another man's good looking, or gets nervous when a man's in touch with his feminine side.

It's ridiculous. Sexuality is determined through who you're attracted to, not through how you dress or act.

Don't worry, your not the only straight male prince fan. Also, you don't have to explain something like that to other guys. They're just saying it make themselves feel more masculine. Sounds pretty childish.

As a teen I listened to Prince, Bowie's 70s stuff and the Cure (with the lipstick and all). My parents gave me ample opportunity to "come out" because of that. smile They're so sweet. But alas, women only for me. wink Or more precisely: one woman only for me.

I am here. Been here since 1983.
Taking shit my whole life .
I have tried to show people his greatness.
Most won't give him a chance, because of the way he dresses.
The truth is they are insure with themselves.
There is absolutely no musician on the planet, that can do what he has done.
It is frustrating, by am always going to be his loyal funk soldier,
playing his music to everyone who won't listen.
I am taking my son (10) to see him next month.'
He loves most of his music(that he can listen to)

I appreciate Prince's talent. I appreciate the way Michael Jordan plays ball.

He has nothing to do with wanting to have sex with guys.
I wouldn't do it. (Not that there is anything wrong with that)

hetero woman here and i totally agree with you in the opposite sense. people always act like i fantasize about sleeping with the man instead of just really digging his music. and then they act like i'm lying when i say i don't find him sexually attractive - attractive yes, just not sexually. it is frustrating . . . 'cause i'm more into REAL relationships NOT idolozing someone or fantasing about it . . . sorry to cut in on the guy talk wink resume . . .

wave I admire the music, by the way. Also, IF the subject were to come up, it would simply be explained as having admiration for a guy (or woman if that were the case) to come up with such a broad-based catalogue of good music and energy, that's all. Anything taken from it more than what it is is not worthy of any response, IMO.
