I can't explain the rush I got listening to Alphabet St. for the first time. It sounded like nothing else ever before.

Prince went into artistic and creative overdrive.

The purposely cheap promo for Alphabet St. with its retro effects and hidden messages. Lying on the floor and screaming "NO!". How fucking exciting was that, at the time?

Eye Wish U Heaven Parts 1, 2 and 3 backed with Scarlet Pussy. I mean - Oh. My. God.

He was all over the media in the U.K. back then. Every TV show, radio station, newspaper, music magazine.

Its bizarre to think that this was only 4 years after Purple Rain. It was such a quantum leap musically. I remember listening to Eye No for the first time and it was like the first time I had tasted fresh coriander. I sat there on the back seat of a bus with my newly-purchased Lovesexy cassette in my walkman. I was reading the lyrics on the cover thinking, "what the fuck is this?".

The polka-dot suit in the Glam Slam video. Dancing around wearing a blindfold. It was just so freaky and different.

I think 81' - 84' prince was at his peak.

It was cool being 15, 16 & 17 when these albums came out. There's never been another time like it.

hey Binary Justin,do you remeber the week in 1988 channel four showed Purple Rain,then a few nights later Lovesexy Live was broadcast all over Europe?Absolutely magical.I had been a casual fan up to that point,buying the singles from around 1984,but after i saw Lovesexy Live i just went nuts.The guitar playing!The screaming!The piano playing!The bizarre sexuality which beautifully corrupted my 14 year old mind!I went out the next day and bought the Lovesexy album(on the same day i bought Never Mind The Bollocks and The Catcher In The Rye),and from then after everything i could with my paper round money.Buying each album in consecutive weeks just blew my mind.I still remember the first time i heard Sometimes It Snows In April,Condition Of The Heart,Bambi,When We`re Dancing,If I Was You`re Girlfriend,etc etc..as if my life had been black and white then suddenly became colour.
I`m 31 now and i guess i still like what he does but i still LOVE 1979-1990 like no other music.
One of my favourite memories was seeing him in Edinburgh in 1993 and he did SOTT,Sometimes It Snows,She`s Always In My Hair,The Cross.He did Purple Rain just as the sun was setting and the clouds were turning a deep red(the gig was in a stadium,incase you think i was tripping)and i`ve never known a moment like it.
Ahhh,i`m off to have a Prince night.....
