100 MPH

Mazarati released this track on March 4, 1986 - although it was many years later that I finally heard their version, after hearing Prince's version sometime in the mid-1990s. It took me a long time to get into either version, but there's something about that groove that's unstoppable and worked its way into my mind. That's funky stuff.

What do you think of this track? Do you prefer Prince's version or Mazarati's? The 12"?

Incidentally, Dale Bozzio also released the track Prince-penned So Strong on her album on March 4, 1988. I was going to start a thread on that too, but I figured it would get buried pretty quick. I don't even remember what the track sounds like. I'll have to dig that one out...

'Simon Simon' was written by Dale Bozzio and Robert Brookins.
The Prince penned track on her album was called 'So Strong'.

Destination Unknown!!!!! Missing Persons was bad back in '82!!!!!
and then Dale started to work with Prince, you know i was in heaven.
teh album turned out pretty weak, like a lot of his side projects . . . but i love that it happened anyway . . .

here's some So Strong lyrics . . . i've always loved them but she sings in some weird key . . can't quite figure it out . . .

so strong, so strong
this feeling i got for you is so strong
only for a very short time i've known you
and already i feel like i was born to hold you
i don't know how you feel about me
but baby you are all that i wanna see . . .

pix of Dale

So Strong was a cool little funky ditty in the vain of the stuff he wrote for Sheena Easton. If you like Cool Love then you will like So Strong. I think he only gave her that song because he was sleeping with her at the time. Reference: Dale did an interview a few years ago along with Warren Cucurullo (of Missing Persons and Duran Duran) and the interviewer asked if she had ever slept with Prince. She didn't answer and smiled. Warren chimes in, technically I have slept with Prince (which answers that question-going on the theory that you have slept with whomever your partner has slept with.)
