I'd put it at about a 4. I just cant seem to dig it like many others here. It reminds me too much of his late 90's "New Power Soul" output that I wasn't that big of a fan of. It also reminds me of "Prettyman" off RAVE which I kinda liked better.

But it did make me want to shake my ass a lil bit..

Just like the Work Pt 1, it's a good song that is fun and funky, but it doesn't make me feel anything really, and isn't music an artform and doesn't good art make you feel something inside?

Like I remember the first time I heard 'Paisley Park' it made me see things and feel things I hadn't felt or couldn't articulate before. That was one of the first songs that made me feel like there are great wonderful things in this world.

I hope the rest of the new LP has some more eccentric sounding tunes. Musicology is good, but it has sort of been done before.

Musically, I loved the direction he went to on TRC. Wouldn't mind some mo of that.

Using your funk-o-meter rating system I would give it a 3.
Its on the same level as The Work.

But on your ratings scale I would switch Tambourine with The Work
so it then be a 4.

Does that make sense???

Righteousone, you're probably right; it just seems like Pretty Man, The Work and now Musicology are all James Brown songs. Very little of Prince is still there. I think The Time used to be Prince's outlet for James Brown type stuff, but Morris had his own thing going too, so it worked. Now it's just Prince doing a tribute and his originality seems lost in the mix somewhere. Jam of the Year strikes me as very boring and dull, but still more original than the James Brown stuff.

Tell you what though.....change "Jam of the Year" to "Irresistable Bitch." .....Yeah, that'll work!

i liked it when i first heard it last summer. One of the few songs i liked upon hearing it the first time... cooltune to dance to also...I give it a 9.
