I notice that some people in here really don't like Parade. Whick is fine, we are all welcome to our own opinions. But for those of you who don't like Parade, what exactly don't you like about it? Personally, it took me a while to get into it but I think it's great. Definitely a good variety of stules on it!

This is HANDS DOWN THE GREATEST Prince album ever! This album is Psychedelic-funky-pop--that is if you can even GIVE this music a label! hamster2

Who else on this Planet would EVER put "French-ified" twists on an album 2 yrs. removed from their break-thru hit rock album? INSANE! hamster2 hamster2

The imagry of Cherry Moon, the originality, the album's B&W, the music---Prince at his most original and inspired!

PARADE: his BEST!!! guitar

well, i guess i'll be the one to answer your question...somewhat. i don't dislike parade but i don't like it either. it does have some great songs, most of which took some time to grow on me, but overall i find it...'meh'. i can take it or leave it. have you ever broken someone's facial features down? they have beautiful eyes, a great mouth, yada yada but when put together they're just funny looking or plain? that's parade for me. great parts but together i can leave it.

now, when i listen to it i enjoy it, but i rarely ever do. i don't even have it on cd. i'm not sure if i enjoy it when i listen to it because i like it or because it's been years since i've heard it. if it weren't for anotherholeinyohead and kiss, i could say i hadn't heard a thing off of parade in a good 4 or 5 years. nothing about it excites me and makes me say "oh i wanna listen to parade."

does that answer you at all? hope so.

one of his best. but like all the records of the era, so short compared to his 1990-2000's output.

I would love to see a deluxxxe reissue loaded w/ unreleased stuff so that we can have the REAL parade....

anyone know what a full track list might be? Certainly Love or Money and Alexa de Paris

Funny, I was just listening to it this weekend. What a great album...all the textures and strange funk. NOBODY sounded like it then and NOBODY sounds like it today. Way ahead...

An incredible, completely cohesive album. Mountains is one of my favorite Prince songs, right up there with Pink Cashmere and Power Fantastic. I love this album. Great to listen to at the first signs of Spring...

awesome album.
the experimentation foreshadowed the brilliance we would see in the 87-88 period.

you must be dead if you dont love sometimes it snows in april.

but,

i could swear that i remember prince being quoted as saying that he regretted that parade was rushed and that he released the album without enough good material and that he wasnt proud of anything on parade except for kiss.

i still remember reading that quote and always questioned it.

(by the way, dont ask me to remember where the quote was from, it was so long ago, i cant remember)

does anyone else remember reading that?

I was 14 when I bought this album on cassette. I loved it so much that I used to listen to it in bed wearing headphones. I played it over and over again in the middle of the night listening out for all the things that I'd missed previously whilst holding the cassette case!

For years though, I thought they were singing: "Do U, do U like a prick, mon choux?" - In other words, "Do you like dick, my cabbage?".

Oh LAWD...I graduated high school that year...ouch

I loved Parade, and though I was quite angry at the time that he shunned touring America then, it was a brilliant move to make all us heads just love him more.

My faves (and these always change):

Girls & Boys - sexy bebopish thang to me
Do U Lie (French and accordion...and so very sexy)
Anotherlover.... my Moms and all her funkifed friends who thought Prince was a freak even loved that one.
Oh, all...Mountains took some getting used to. But that's why "I Just Lo-o-o-ove the Man"

NEW POSITION...ah yeah

This album is definately one of his best:

Under the Cherry moon
Kiss
Sometimes it snows in April
Girls and Boys

All four are true Prince classics....and the rest are seriousely good tunes. My least favourite is Mountains which is still pretty sweet.

That's strange because Mountains is my least favorite on the disc too. It was one of my favorites right off the bat but it doesn't really grow on you like the rest of the album. It's still a great song though.

It's a beautiful album which is Prince at his best but also the most collaborative of his released albums. I didn't feel a whole lot of Wendy and Lisa on his other albums except for ATWIAD and maybe the song Purple Rain. With this album you get the feeling the three of them, under Prince's direction of course wink , worked together on it. The flow of this album is second only to TRC in terms of Prince albums and the good vibes are second to none-- not even Lovesexy.

His instincts were good then because the only song that doesn't fit that well is Kiss but it's so good we can let that slide.

How funny cuz I felt the exact opposite...

Funny, I was also listening to it this w/e!!

I've had on-again off-again with Parade - l;oved it when it first came out, then went off it, then thought of it as "classic" but less noteworthy than other albums. Now I'm in a love-it phase.

Faves: New Position, Anotherlover, Mountains

These 3 + G&B were always my faves. I don't understand those who don't like Mountains?!

Funny thing: at the time , the album felt over-produced: I wanted something rawer from him. That's why SOTT was a perfect follow-up: it mixed raw and tight production. BUT, since Emancipation + all the overproduced shit out now, Parade sounds quite striped-back!
