Can anyone describe the song Musicology to me? I haven't heard it yet.

Old School Funk with horns, tight groove. Laid back, not that catchy. Not a bad track. Kinda like a cleaned up jam more than a new song. That's just my opinion for what it's woth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The feeling you get when... (you squeeze your balls?) no that's not it...

its like the work
with that return of the bumo squad groove but it seems very slow not a fast paced numba

It's kind of like a cross between a Time song and "Return of the Bump Squad" & "The Work", only a bit more mid-tempo. But just a bit.
Now, when people were hearing the damn song last summer, what was so indescribable about this song? It's not the catchiest thing he's ever done, but sheesh. You'd think it was Pootie Tang's " " or something, the way folks got all tongue-tied over it.

Yeah, it's like a more mid-tempo version of Return of the Bump Squad.
I don't think it really has much of a resemblance to The Work... I thought The Work was much more blatant in its JB influence. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I don't hear Return of the Bumpsquad anywhere in the song. It does however sound like a way better version of the Work. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

You know what? It sounds a lot like "The Ball" - same leads and maybe the same key, but a bit faster tempo.

It's like the Work pt.1, but with even *less* melody.
In one word: tedious. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

TOTALLY true. And like the Work, it's solid, but not groundbreaking by any means. Fun, though. Supa! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I kept hearing a cross between "Jam Of The Year" and "New Power Soul" myself....with the vocal delivery more along the lines of those in "The Work, pt. 1"...only without the falsetto.

It's kind of a mixture of Batdance (slow part) and Housequake. It's more a groove based song than one with a catchy melody. I could see Prince rap this song actually... Anyway, it's greate stuff for life music!!!

hope thats cleared things up for you then thebiscuit , its like a better version of The Work but not quite as good and it sounds nothing like return of the bump squad (except for certain parts which do)

U know when I 1st heard people comparing Musicology to Bump Squad, I thought they were crazy. But after listening to it (from Leno) a bit more, I'd be singing it to myself and then for some reason would change the lyrics to the lyrics from Bump Squad. Then I listened to them back to back and the groove is definitely VERY similar. Musicology is just slower.

Whew!
Thanks. Guess music needs to be heard and not seen.

It reminds me of Eye Wish U Heaven Part 3 - without the raspy "dirty" voice and with real instruments.
