Why do old songs become crappy medleys when he goes on tour? Every live clip I have ever seen has the old songs all chopped up into some crappy ass medley.
Any reason? I've reversed the polarity of the neutron flow... Now to find a way to exterminate Melody Cool and Rosie Gaines...

Any reason? Because someone with so many great songs can never play them all in their entirety.

Any reason? I was thinking the same thing. I really don't want to hear medleys when he comes to Europe. I'd rather he invested his time in an atmospheric, full version of Joy In Repetition, for example. [This message was edited Tue Mar 2 13:52:49 2004 by ConsciousContact]

I may be hoping, but I think with this whole musciology tour, we may get full versions of songs. Considering it's the last time he'll play them. (wink wink).

It would pretty much be the FIRST time that he's played full-length songs since....when? The mid-80's, right? Certainly the (brilliant) Parade tour was medlified.
I've heard SO many hardcore Prince fans and SO many casual Prince fans and SO many Prince concertgoers and SO man reporters and SO many critics and even my fucking MOTHER say, "Why does he only play a few seconds of the song? I don't wanna hear that one line...that's no fun at all. As soon as we applaud in recognition, he's already moved on to the next one!" And it really IS a shame...imagine a truly full-length Beautiful Ones or Dolphin (with HIM SINGING!!!!! - sorry but EVERY SINGLE live version of this song from the last couple years I've heard for some reason Prince can't be arsed to sing, I HATE that). OK, anyway. Back to work. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Any reason? I think that he genuinely doesn't like living in the past and, therefore, doing the old songs becomes a bit of a chore. But he tries to incorporate those songs into the act in order to try and keep some old school fans happy - and why not? I think that he does them in medley form in order to try and squeeze as many of them in as possible in the shortest time so that he can concentrate on trying to show the audience as much of the new stuff as possible.

Oh yeah, that's the one I know from "Rock Over Germany" - fucking INTENSE, I LOVE his voice on that!!! I think that's what I was thinking of. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I saw him at the House of Blues after the Grammy's -- it was almost all full length classics, expect the new tour to have full length versions, and yes, that includes Beautiful Ones. I've heard the one on Rock over Germany many times, and his recent version was far, far FAR better. I'd bet my life at least 70% of the classics will be full versions on this tour.
...and for what it's worth, after having seen him many times, this was amongst the best, forget Act 2 -- no dancers, no rappers, just the classics.

Let's face it, at the end of the day it's just fucking annoying I won't argue that. But then again, whatever his current band is, they can't always play one of his older songs to his satisfaction (not surprising, considering that these songs were recorded, or at least inspired, by whatever the current band of the time was). I'd prefer Prince and the band performed snippets of old songs rather than completely ignore them. I remember the '95 Ultimate Live Experience tour in Europe. He played pretty much totally new stuff and, as much as I wanted to hear some hits, it was an amazing performance. It proved to me that a damn good live show doesn't necessarily mean that he should perform his old stuff. I know I sound like a brown-nosed fan, but I really do enjoy Prince's performances, regardless of what he's performing.
