I'll admit, the performances were good but nothing phenomenal. I actually thought Kiss was the weakest performance cuz he sang most of it with his hand in his pocket, and didn't seem like he was realy feeling it. Seemed like he was playing it just to make the crowd happy, but he was tired of it. And goddamit with the horns already. There are way too many horns in every song these days. He makes every song into a jazz tune, and it's dumb already. Plus guitar was thrown into too many spots during Kiss. Outside of that, I thought he looked good and had descent energy. I'd really like to see him rock out though. But if he ads horns to Bambi, we're gonna have problems. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Did he think playing Bambi would be funny or something? I swear that man does some of the stupidest motherfucking things sometimes. I really would LOVE to know where he stands on this, what his thinking was today....was it supposed to be a joke, or what? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

As reported by people who were there, Ellen herself danced to Bambi and it's possible it was at her request. She's an old fan and this song, which is NOT anti-lesbian, was probably one of the few songs about a lesbian around in the late 70's.

I actually posed a question in another thread about Ellen's reaction to those that were actually at the taping. One orger in attendance said she was rocking out to the song. He said it seems like she may have requested it.

I really hope he didn't do bambi, because simply put he has no business offending someone who is kind enough to give him nationwide exposure, he's not purple rain hot no more, nobody would miss him but us. So I think that is incredibly cruel and tasteless. Should keep his feelings to himself. ]

If she requested it, then that's another thing. But the song is definitely not pro-gay. Along with Prince's many other gay slanders it wouldn't be surprising that he would try to make some kind of statement to her. I've said it many time, for a freak Prince can be ultra-conservative.

I have to admit this post was good but nothing unusual. It reads like you were giving props and then taking them back lest someone thought you finally were kinda pleased ,,,like you be pleased but make no mistake mistah you be not pleased deep down bout that particular joint. And enough about that habit of yours to stick to one paragraph! I'd like to see you break the single paragraph barrier and tear shit off! But other than that I liked your post -- just don't think I loved it, k?

On the Reno tip, he said it'll be a warm-up (of course) and will give them a chance to jam a little bit to get ready 4 the tour...If I'm not mistaken he said they'll have a FEW warm-up dates b4 the L.A. opening - does that mean a few more may be happening b4 Reno??

Cool I'm glad someone saw her - I assumed she went backstage because I couldn't find her but then everyone was standing and it was very hard to see around them all from my seat. Isn't there a heterophobic myth that the straight man (or woman) can 'cure' gays or lesbians through sheer sexual prowess? That seems to be the 'thrust' of this song, so to speak...I've always hated the idea of this song's lyrics. Why would any lesbian be celebrating a song that says "...Lemme show you...it's better with a man?"

omg, that woman standin to the right of prince....i couldn't stop laughin at her! but i think they had to have been nervous as hell to be up onstage with p, so that's why they weren't dancin to the best of their ability. i'd be kinda like "aw man! don't do nuffin to embarrass yourself, now..." if i were in that situation. at least that's how i see it... but it was still funny to see.

PurpleKnight said: Prince had a sleeveless black shirt on for the performance, and for "old skin", he sure did look amazing.
He really did look good, didn't he VERY GOOD It's hilarious that the man used to show so much skin but nowadays it gets me excited just to see his friggin' arms About 3/4 through "Nothing Compares" his shoulders were glistening - I don't know if that was shimmery moisterizer or sweat but I wanted to lick it whatever it was The outfit was tight, the hair looked better than I've seen it in a few YEARS, lol, & he sounded great. The background singers are too friggin' loud though (overcompensating for the ONA tour? ) & "Kiss" sounded uninspired today - the "dancing" wenches (if you can call that dancing) didn't help @ all. I gotta admit - hearing him do "I Feel For You" got me excited for this tour. It's gonna be really great to hear him go so far back like that. Frisco is waiting P, bring it on Also, if Ellen is supposedly a fan from way back WHY the standard questions about the catalogue/vault, what he listens to, etc. I know she's a celeb w/o time to keep up w/ his every interview but he's been answering those questions w/ the same answers for years now. Come up w/ some new shit & cancel Regis & Kelly!!

Why would any lesbian be celebrating a song that says "...Lemme show you...it's better with a man?" It's more of a character song than a message from Prince himself. The young man in the song is both intent on winning the woman and not so sure she's not having fun. It sounds more like a young man dealing with the sexual orientation of his love, and naively thinking he can "convert" her. "It's so hard 2 believe Maybe it's because U're so young Or maybe I'm just 2 naive Who's 2 say, maybe U're really having fun " I agree that, taken at face value, the song seems to suggest Prince can win back a woman, but see.. it's not said if he succeeds or will succeed.... only that so far, he has not. It's rather sensitive material, but if Ellen Degeneres gets it, I'm not going to pretend I know better than the most famous lesbian in America besides Rosie O'Donnel.

I enjoyed that apperance/performance. I wish we could have seen more but it's an hour long show. It's cool that Ellen's a fan from way back. She's cool people and I gonna check out the show more often. I loved seeing him do I Feel 4 U and Nothing Compares 2 U. Kiss was good too. Just a great show. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I generally agree -- I thought he was largely just going through the motions and not really into the performance, but I can understand that given that he's probably performed these songs hundreds if not thousands of times. Sure, he's a phenomenal performer no matter what and outshines most others any day of the week, but for him, I felt it was largely uneventful. Regardless of what you think about the Leno performance/Musicology single, his energy level and general enthusiasm seemed much higher that night. Consequently, I personally enjoyed that relatively short performance far more. He sure did look fabulous though!
