it's one of those tunes you keep on playing in your head!
anyway, most of the times i don't agree with reviews of the albums, i mean, the ones you can find in every music magazine...
emancipation....i do love that too!

I loved it, I think the sound just caught so many people off guard, that they formed an immediate opinion. Does not sound like any of his other albums, but has some real good songs on it, especially "Into the light", "I will", "Dinner with Delores", & "The Same December".

It certainly wouldn't have caught anyone off guard who had been listening to him throughout the eighties - that was when you never knew what he was going to do and every album was a shock of sorts. C and D was just dissapointing for all the reasons stated above. I would have given anything to have been caught off guard by P in those days but I had to wait a fair few years for the feeling to return.

I am a huge C&D fan, and to be honest I really don't know why so many people dislike it. I think it is one of his best guitar albums.
Thanks,
Timmy

C&D is a very different Prince album, and I can understand people having very polarised reactions to it. Personally, I don't think its anywhere near one of his best, but its a fun album. I truly enjoy the rough feeling that the songs have (especially "I Like It There"). Its a very organic disc, with very little production (which is a fantastic contrast to the slickly produced TGE, which I also love).

The songs are in the vein of stuff like "The Undertaker", albeit a tad more polished. All in all, it sounds like a quick studio demo session, and that is a nice change of pace from most of the stuff he had been doing since "Batman" up to this point.

yeah I dug C & D...it felt much more natural, relaxed and loose than much of the stuff he had put out around then (I am just not a fan of The Gold Experience, Diamonds & Pearls, NPS, or much of the Symbol album or Emancipation...too over produced, to slick, sterile*)

*there are some tunes on the Symbol & Emancipation that i do really like though...for example "And God Created Woman" I love to death.

Anyway...yeah I liked C & D because it felt stripped down and more honest than those other records...and it had some nice guitar work as well...

Chaos & Disorder & Come I think are the only two 90's Prince albums that I still play...

I love Chaos And Disorder. It was the very first Prince album I heard. And right after that I got Emancipation and from there I was hooked. I agree with most of you that it is a very raw and a very guitar album. And also if another artist had put it out it would have been very highly praised, critically speaking. I used to like the first, more guitar heavy, half better but now I love the second half just as much. And I am totally not a fan of Prince + rap but I found Scrap D and Steppa Ranks (I think those are the correct names) to be pretty innocuous as opposed to Tony M. who kind of took over songs and ruined them.

Love the album. Especially the guitar. It's like Prince is sticking a firm middle finger up at WB and the anger is channeled into the guitar. It's a pretty honest album overall. The album does contain my most hated Prince song though- Right The Wrong.

I'd love for him to release another "rock" album. The Undertaker stuff really does it for me.

so yup heres my vote.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I have no problem with C&D. For an album that was supposedly recorded in 10 days, there's some interesting stuff in there. "Had U" is very cool..... cool

I heard P made Chaos and Disorder over the span of a weekend to see if he could make an album that fast. If that is true then he did a remarkable job who else could do that and make it sound halfway decent?

Just one example:( The Beatles 1st lp, "Beatles For Sale" was done in ONE single recording session one afternoon. That is a classic, fresh album. wink )

Sorry: For MY $$$, I want MORE than just a "curiousity". I want the best that artist has to offer, and knowing some of the vault stuff collecting dust-"C&D" is ultimately inexcusable.Prince had an obligation under contract to deliver a quality product to WB and to US, not an "experiment" to see if he could make an album in 48 hrs. that sounded "halfway decent". I'm sorry he didn't have the integrity to deliver a better album.

The book was closed on the integrity and value of "C&D" when Prince himself wrote off this release on his website "Discography".

Right or wrong, Prince felt no obligation to fulfill a contract he believed was unfair with quality material. It was all filler to him, just a screw you to "Warn a Brotha".

That said, I think the album is uneven but has been wrongly vilified. I love the gospel-rock vibe of "The Same December" and "Right the Wrongs", even though the lyrics are a bit cheesy. "Dig U Better Dead" and "I Rock Therefore I Am" are two of his worst songs IMO and I hate "Dinner With Dolores". But "Zannalee" gives me a big goofy grin and "I Like It There" is probably in my all-time top 20 Prince songs.
You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

I dunno man, just because prince don't like something don't make it crap. Didn't the li'll man say that he wasn't particularly proud of anything on Parade except Kiss ?

Yeah, but he plastered a big, red, "CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION" over "C&D"'s cover. I took that as saying, "the only reason this is out there was to fufill an obligation".It's product.

"Parade" was a full-on effort: a soundtrack, videos, a tour,12"ers. Listen to the outtakes-this was a real effort.I wonder if Prince slammed "Parade" as a backhanded slap to Wendy & Lisa,et.all? That seems to be his style.

Word to CHAOS & DISORDER. I didn't buy it right when it came out but rather waited until I found it used. I loved it from the get go!! Great raw, easy, laid back, rockin' album. So immediate, so powerful, so real. All things that Prince sometimes shies away from. I mean what's not to like?! Especially for us guitar players. I dug it bigtime.
