What do the Madhouse albums sound like? I've never heard either of these albums and was wondering how they compare to Xpectation and N.E.W.S.

No, they're much better. They were apart of the jazz-funk sound that Prince had during the Parade/Sign O' The Times era. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

lite funk-jazz. the same realm as Xpectation. If you liked it, you will like Madhouse.

rialb, to compare them to news and xpectations in terms of SOUND is interesting.
madhouse has a very very in your face, raw sound. it sounds sharp and cutting, not mellow in the slightest, like a lot of prince's earlier funk. Not at all like the excellently produced news/xpectations/TRC more mellow and rounded sound. the compositions on the other hand, on 8 at least, are generally much funner and structured. I actually like all these albums very much though, and would have a hard time choosing between Mahouse 8 and news.

I liked Madhouse 8 a lot. Madhouse 16 was barely ok, it had some high points, such as 9 and 16- but 8 was where it's at. Although, I think I might actually prefer Xpectation to 8. NEWS was more along the lines of 16 to me, it had some good parts, but on a whole I have a hard time sitting through the whole thing.
