(Re: NEWS and Expectation) I think most peple don't like them cuz they suck. Just a theory. They suck, they being "most people"? Then you're absolutely right. NEWS is a wonderful, challenging record. I love jazz and fusion and I know people find it very difficult to listen to this kind of record. It takes concentration and knowledge. It's a wonderful effort, interesting on many layers. If you think diamonds & pearls and all that shit is better than news it just means you have to study a little better the history of music in the 20th century. By the way, my three most disliked: Diamonds & Pearls The Symbol Album Come God, how I loathed those years. I felt like the world was dying. Thank god for News and TRC. New Power Soul
N.E.W.S. -- long, complex and contemplative do not make a great a record per se. Madhouse 16 was much, much better. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic gets worse with each listening, so let's go with that. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Take Emancipation and cut it down to one disk. Take the rest of that album and put it on two disks. So you have two disks worth from Emancipation and add Batman. That would be my bottom three. By the way N.E.W.S., Xpectation, and NPS are all great albums. (Well NPS is not great, but if you understand that is is essentially a dance record, it does that quite well. I remember the DJ spinning a lot of tracks from NPS after every show during Xenophobia and it really got the crowd moving.)

worrrrrd Up.. what you consider to be the bottom depends on what else you vibe to besides Prince... and if you're just a listener/follower of the artistry, there's something good to be found in each and every one...so why try to find a bottom when the top is so intriguing and fluid? ********************************************

My bottom 3: New Power Soul (Yuk!!!) 1999 New Master (only got 1 listen then i lost it on purpose) Graffiti Bridge (only 'cause of the title song) "Batman" is an incredibly weak album. It is overly commercial, and most of the songs sound like he didn't even try to make anything interesting out of them. The only album I dislike more is the atrocious NPS, which makes "Batman" sound like a masterpiece. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Rave.... holy crap. Every song had a decent guest star, but it seemed like they only kept the "warm up" tracks and coulda done better.
2/3 of Emancipation. I like most of the first disk, and then the Kate Bush computer song. And...that's about it. BTW, has anyone heard his collaberation with KB on The Red Shoes cd? It's one of my favorite pieces of music ever. ever. and last but not least... NPS. The One was the only one track that deserved playing more than once. I haven't played that cd since I heard it the first day I bought it. Horrible. Horrible.

BELIEVE IT! I know that era in Prince music is pretty sacred around here, but when I throw it in there with everything from "Prince" to "Lovesexy" it's the weakest of the bunch. IMO But hey, I'm probably harder on it because it came out during his glory days when I expected so much from him. I fact still is, however, when it's time to listen to some Prince, Parade is rarely my choice. CALL ME A DREAMER 2!

I never thought this would ever happen since I love every Prince album up until 2002 but.. Xpectation ONA Live News God forbid.. they'd make it to the CD drink coaster hall of fame... Xpectation and News is understandable- two challenging discs to listen to because they have no vocals. However, ONA:LIVE is great Good music does not need vocals. These albums show of artistically what Prince and the NPG can do and not have to rely on vocals. It is all about the MUSIC first.

Okay, I agree with everyone that "1999 the New Master" sucked, but that wasn't an album. It was a Maxi-single. Likewise for the "Purple Medley". Maybe we need a "worst Maxi-single" thread. Of course, that honour goes to the Cream maxi, which sucks more than a hoover.
