show off hands please.. if you think that Musicology as a single is going to bomb?
personally i dig the song and can't wait to hear it live; but i'm not sure if it is going to blow up like people think it will. who even knows if it's going to be a single? and the funny thing is: so many of us on here have been BEGGING Prince for some more funk and when he does, we trash it. what's up with that? Prince could release his greatest ever song/single and it would bomb. Sorry, P but it ain't happening again.

Prince's new music always seems to fall on its face because it is so far ahead of its time that people don't understand it, thus they reject it. When in actuality, its the most brilliant music to come out. Look at Chaos & Disorder. almost 10 years later, we have the white stripes and the strokes doing raw guitar driven music and having success with it. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

In general we don't know how the general pubilc will react. I used to watch people dance to Batdance, which is hard to do when you like it. Kiss was another song I didn't think anyone else would love, it was so different.
I don't feel Musicologly is going to break out, but it's because it is a standard funk song and not fresh. It's very hard to sound interesting and new when you're 25 years older than your target audience for pop music. Let's hope that like Little red corvette the second single break it.

Musicology will have the same impact the Work Pt. 1 had.

Musicology has broad appeal because it references the good ol' days of soul and funk...my girlfriend's Dad who doesn't listen to much music anymore but loves old motown soul really enjoyed the Leno performance of Musicology.
I think it will do fairly well, but it will not blow up big like "Hey Ya!", for example. It will appeal, like most of Prince's music to old-school soul fans and "real music" fans young and old. I'm glad he's not trying for another Rave image though, getting in on the modern R & B thing (although I thought Rave was still pretty succesful at that)...he's matured now, and he's got a newly found regal status what with the grammy's and hall of fame and all just like Bowie, for example. He appeals to young and old and I think that's the best way for him to go these days. He's maturing very gracefully.

If Clear Channel is supporting the tour, and the CD is released in time, they'll play it on their stations in regular rotation. The multi-national corporation will be Prince's fair weather friend once more. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

depends...how much does a hit cost these days.....isn't it the accountant who decides.....look at the charts...it ain't about quality no more....its about 'who's backing it'

CC owns a large portion of the radio stations in the states, as well as many, many large and small venues. They also promote tours. If they need to get asses in seats, they'll rotate the tracks at the appropriate stations. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Whether we like the song or not. I think it will sale well and chart high. This is his moment again...every artist has ups and downs. Now the trick is can he hold on to it. Santana came back but didn't stay,it's really hard for older artist.
