Prince's rhythm tracks I just noticed one of the qualities that I think Prince's newer music is lacking. The rhythm tracks. I don't think he puts as much work into his drum patterns or his basslines as he did in the past. I don't think it was ever the strongest part of his music but lately I've really noticed that the bass and drums are really repetitive and seem uninspired. What do you guys think?

I think the percussion/drums/bass are great in NEWS and XPectation. I guess I can see your point in "Musicology" -- but it's just a fun, commercial dance song. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

I think that he's burried some wonderful rhythm parts too far down in the mix. As Doozer mentioned about NEWS, you really have to listen deeper. I agree that the head-bobbing, beat based stuff Prince has put out in the past is fewer and farther between now days.
S & M Groove was re-released at NPGMC, maybe a sign of good things to come for our woofers. Too bad it's been edited "for the children". If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
