My only problem with all that's going on is... ...that Prince is "suddenly" going to be reclaimed by the media for "genius we knew he was all along", because the majors are now backing him.
Some of the press got it right. Some got it wrong. I would hate to think that all it stemmed from was whether Prince was 'Studio' flavour of the month. It's curious that, what with his press friendly activity, - in the UK - Q and MTV are playing songs of his again. I say that Prince is Media Whore, but how much of whore is the media. All of a sudden Prince is a cool thang, so they play Prince. It's Like Bill said, Go back to bed America. Watch we tell you to, you are free. You are free to watch what we tell you to." etc. Prince is worth so much more than fashion. That's all he's pandering too. He should learn the difference. ... ... except, of course... he is that vain.

I don't think that choosing "Musicology" as the lead single from his album is pandering to fashion. Its nothing like any other major artist is doing, right now.

The only thing Prince is doing is making an effort to be more accessible as a public figure, and I say right on for that. Check out his vibe on Tavis Smiley and then check him out on Leno or the Grammys - it's almost like two different people, but the way he's doing it is very smart. Laid back black turtleneck and acoustic guitar on PBS, flashy suits and high heels for the bigshot showiz appearances. He's working the different sides of his persona to his advantage, FINALLY, and it's paying off for him. I think that's cool.

I agree. He's doing (so far) what i've wanted him to do for a long time. Give his music a chance to make an impact. This is the way the world works, and it might be unfortunate, but if you want your music heard you have to play this game.
