Q: re. Chaos & Disorder + The Vault

Why are Chaos & Disorder and the Vault the exact same length? (39:21) Both would have fit on a single cd. Was Prince consciously slapping WB in the face? Obviously the packaging is similar but I just noticed that both cd's have the same running time. Anybody have an answer for me?

Hmmm...My C&D is 39:09 and The Vault is 39:17.

But, both are still longer than Dirty Mind and Controversy, and just a shy shorter than the self-titled LP!

They are both contract filling albums. At the time Prince didn't particularly want to give Warners
any more than he had to, so those albums were sequenced to the old vinyl album basic
running length. Both albums also contain a large percentage of 'filler' material, which would
probably never have seen the light of day had it not been for the falling out between Prince and
WB.
