Well, I've heard the snippet from the Emoticon Smiley show and I liked it. Have you heard the whole thing?

Ive heard a 1.45min sample which I believe is what ya'll have heard. Sounds good, drummer sounds like hes falling down the stairs at some points lol. It sounds unfinished though, not the complete instrumentation I know Prince for. Almost like its a work in progress or something off 'the work' bootlegs. It sounds very much the way my tunes sound when I havnt finished it anyway, could be the poor quality on the recording I have.

I thought the same thing about the drums... For a man who has the gift of groove AND a fantastic drummer, it sounds like a badly-put togther loop. With such sparse instrumentation, it really is distracting, no?

Its definatly not blackwell playing, Im a drum teacher & I could tell his distinctive style anywhere. Sounds like the drums are programmed & not very well at that. Its alright for most of the phrases its just every now & then it skips a 1/16 of the beat. Strange...

But yes I think the lack of instrumentation does make it stand out more.

I dont think it sounds like a typical Prince track. Apart from the fact that I can recognise Prince's voice, if you played me this track & asked who I thought it was, Prince would not be my first choice.

I saw it today biggrin on Leno's show, it was the live version, so i dnt know what the studio 1 sounds like, but i have 2 say its, ALRIGHT, i cant see it going 2 number 1, but fingerscrossed, and plus it was the live version, but i enjoyed it, and i have only listened 2 it once, i could change my mind after hearing it again.

I guess I'm gonna sound all negative and stuff, but I really don't like this song at all. It reminds me a lot of "The Work," which reminded me a lot of James Brown.
I mean, nothing against James, and I know Prince is paying his respects, but Prince is and always was better than any of his influences.
I don't know...I was just curious if anybody else is really really disappointed with this song?
(Don't attack. I do love Prince and will go see him when he's in town and I've seen him 6 times before and he looked great on Leno and I hope he hits it big again. I just think this song sucks.)

Prince is a melting pot of his influences as are most artists. There would be no Prince if it were not for folks like James Brown wink
