i am not excited about this tour . . . .

well, i too had ill reactions to the Ellen show . . . Prince is the man, don't get me wrong. but this showing made me decide NOT to go to this tour. sorry to say it but it's PLAYED out!! only because i'm a long-time fan (20+ yrs) and have been to over a dozen concerts already, since '88. i just can't imagine what new experience i will have. he couldn't possibly top the awesome performances i've already seen, especially the concert at the Gorge in Washington state (Emancipation, i think - Chaka was with him)!!!!

i'm getting enough of little Princey just seeing his guest appearances, which is rare for him. i enjoy seeing him perform but seeing him in interviews is the best, because it's new . . . i tape them and can watch them at my leisure . . .

i'm still a hug fan and can't wait for the H.O.F., anniversary of Purple Rain, the new album and every new album from here on out, etc!!!! but i just don't think i can get hyped over seeing LRC live again, even though it's my all time favorite concert tune - almost brings me to tears when the organ starts at the beginning . . .

i guess the publicity had the reverse effect on me and made me not want to go see him this time - i'm having more fun following the TV appearances. maybe i'm just finally growing up?!

just some thoughts . . . oh, but i do have to say, if i were able to catch him at a venue like H.O.B.'s i'd be there in a MINUTE!! the arena thing, nah .. not this time.

who thinks i'm eek crazy?? wink

I think you are crazy, but mostly because I have never seen Prince live before! If I had seen him 12 times I might not be so excited about a new tour.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! For longtime fans there is just nothing new being offered to get hyped about. For me I'm really getting tired of Prince playing hommage to those that came before him such as James Brown, Sly Stone, etc. Back in the 80's Prince created his own sound that later became know as the Minneapolis sound. Today he just isn't very interesting anymore. Maybe I too am just growing up.

Perhaps he will really put these songs to rest and focus on creating new interesting music to perform live. Until then I'm just not that interested and will pass on his offerings. However, I may try to get tickets for my daughter (13) who has just discovered this new singer guy named "Prince" lol

ain't really nothin wrong with payin homage to folks, y'know...as for me, i'm just sick n'tired of hearin about the hits bein played on every tour as of late. like i mentioned on another thread, the hits ain't what turned me on to p in the first place.

then again, this tour is for everyone else who likes the hits n'such and is used to that, so...but it's still kind of a drag.

there's not much interest out there in seeing prince other than Prince's core fan.
this is a bad business move for prince who hasn't had a hit single since when?
instead prince is still relying on his old hits to build momemtum.
even when cher came back, she had a hit single.
you gotta have some hit singles and build up some momemtum before you go on a major tour.

maybe this is not a major tour as we think.
either way it's a bad business move in which he can lose money and unable to pay off all the expensens.

From what some people around here have explained, Prince is paid a ton of money up front by the promoter of this tour so he doesn't worry about attendance. He's been paid already.

I have to agree with the original post, even though I've only seen him live twice. Seen and heard enough bootleg material throughout his career...but it will be nice to gather with the other fans, though.

Overall, not really excited per se!
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I'm not going if he comes to Europe, i've been to every tour in the UK since Lovesexy. I'm bored shitless with the hits to tell the truth. Shame really, Cause i loved the freshness of the ONA tour. sad

I am kinda worried, because I already shelled out WAY too much $$ for tickets, and his performance on Ellen was so-so... But I have only seen him live 5 times, so maybe it won't be so bad...

I was talking to someone today about this very subject but I guess I don't really care if he's only doing hits and I've been a fan since the beginning. There is nothing like the excitement I feel when a tour is announced and when my friend went online and got our tix, I was once again reminded that no one does it for me like him.

Question: Why does he have to top the past to make it worthwhile? I'm not just trying to be snotty here, but seriously. That's like saying you won't have sex again unless you're guaranteed it will "top" the last time. Isn't that absurd?

There is a continuum. The first time I saw Prince I HATED the show. I was a huge fan and saw him for the first time on JOTY. He played all medleys and I was livid. After 10 years of being a hardcore fan I finally got a chance to see him and he wouldn't even play a song all the way through?! But I went again on the CELEBRATION tour and it was great! Then two years ago on ONA he blew my mind! Best show I've EVER seen in my life. So what now? He's probably got a B average in my personal experience live. So I shouldn't go?

Screw that. Life is a lottery, a series of chances. You take them. Every time you do something there is no guarantee it will "top" the last time. That's just life!!

I honestly am more excited about the outfits me and my girfriend are planning on sporting (hopefully) to the gig. I was excited about the tour after the Leno appearance but after Ellen that has kind of waned.

For the records the outfits are in NO WAY related to Prince or the famdom of covering ourselves head to toe in images of Prince.

Glad you're the star of the show! ;P I'm sure that's true! I'm just saying that setting expectations that things have to increase all the time or they aren't worth doing is self-defeating and not realistic. That's the part I'm comparing. Not the cost, etc!!

(And actually we all spend money on sex- outfits, candles, CD's, lotion, bed & breakfasts, etc. So honestly we PAY for sex even if we don't pay for SEX, knowhutImean?!)

But that's cool- if you're not moved don't go. That's the free market. If he's not exciting you to buy his product then don't. That's cool! I support that.

And don't worry, I've got tix to three shows so I'll be there! I'm taking three different people all of whom have never seen him before. Hope he delivers!!

i too was more excited about finally having someplace to wear an outfit that has just been hanging in my closet and to just get out of the house . . . the concert was incidental . . . so i decided i really didn't need to go . . .

hope you guys have a fantabulous time!!! work it!! razz wink

there you go - you have people that have never seen him going with you, that's your excitement! sharing him . . . and i never said it has to get better and better each time . . . i just feel fulfilled by the shows i've been to - i'm not yearning for anything more ... that's all . . .

have fun!!

Most of yal are nuts.If he goes on one show some people like it and some don't,if he goes on another show, so people like it and some don't. Are yal getting my point. There is nothing that he as a musician that he can do song wise or performance wise that will make everyone happy.I'm so glad that he marches to the beat of his own drum, because no matter what he does he will be critized one way or the other. If you don't want to go to the concert then good thats more seat for the people who want to go and have a good time.I'll be there just smelling the funk. Can you smell it?
