I was watching the performance on Tavis Smiley again, which is very moving, and note-perfect!

The lyrics seem directed to different people, potentially real, potentially fictional.

Firstly the line "I forgot 2 look up at the moon tonight cuz I was 2 busy lookin at U" is a sweet line, obviously spoken to a (current) lover.

Then the line about remembering when they'd compare whose afro was the roundest, fishents and posters on the walls...sounds like he's talking about him and Andre? Just hanging out, like buds, getting girls, playing their guitars on the stoop.

The line about his mother...gets me everytime

Of course this is all speculation, but when I get into a song and it shifts its subject/audience, it's kinda confusing. Sort of like Tangled Up In Blue, one of the greatest Dylan narratives put to tape!

Any thoughts?
