Have a little faith in Prince

I really don't know why everyone is sweatin' Prince's current situation. I mean it is few artists or acts who can go virtually "hitless" or "underground" for 10 years and then headlines the biggest music awards show of all. I am just gonna relax enjoy the tour and the new album. Maybe you'll have some fun this year too. If not, there is always those old albums from the 80's lol

I just think people are scared that he dont f**k it up, and that it all goes well.

I agree with u, im just gonna enjoy this year, cause maybe this will be the year PRINCE is back on the billboard, cause it would be the first time for me biggrin

But im also scared cause i dont want the tour to be a flop, but we all know PRINCE can do it!

I agree with you. I have been a fan most of my life and that's been on different levels. Only "recently" (1997) have I been really turned onto the other world of Prince. I had no idea that there was so much music that had not been heard..and much of it was really good. I have been a big fan ever since. What I also got turned on to was the whole drama that goes along with being a fan. I guess one goes with the other. I remember the whole CB fiasco when the internet was still sort of new (We all got over that eventually didn’t we  ) But I think that may have been the start of the complaining…or at least was the straw that broke for many fans (or in my case started my straw pile). I almost started a post here titled “when did you start complaining”.

I am thrilled that he is touring and has a new disc out. And I have no doubt that his concert will kick butt. He looks great and sounds great. I think he’s in top form musically. I don’t see what really the big deal is. It’s HIS career, he can do with it as he pleases...if he messes it up, that’s his problem. One tour one album…big deal. I Imagine that if he pandered to most of his fans wishes…we’d be putting him and the revolution in a glass case and make them sing Purple Rain over and over again forever! LOL. Just kidding.

I think we are lucky he is still putting out music. Some is good some not so good…but most is better than the swill on the radio now. I mean what’s really to mess up? I doubt he’ll ever get back on the radio…and who’d want to? Back on top? Of what? And what does that mean anyway? His best selling stuff isn’t necessarily what the fans like. I really don’t know what we should expect. Out of him, his music, music club or a concert. I have fond memories of previous concerts and a LOT of music to listen to, so I don’t see this as a break all, though some (and maybe Prince does to some extent) feel this way. I see this as more of the same…part of his journey. If I had one “wish” it would be that he could have the control/freedom that Bjork or Ani Difranco have.

I actually stick around as a fan, because he still does crop up a gem every once in a while…I liked TRC…LOVED ONA boxed set (see joy in repetition) and thought the WAR was a masterpiece. The fact that I have heard the WAR makes me feel special, because most have not, and it’s probably one of the best things he has done musically imo…it’s also 23 min long so there’s that too.

I think fans on here and other boards are way too critical of every aspect and minutiae and hang onto every little detail and analyze and scrutinize and squeeze all they can from the man and his music and what he says. I am sure there are some, but give me a name of someone who is currently as prolific, has been around for over 20 years and is still producing semi-decent music (which Prince still does) and kicks butt in concert and makes headlines. Not too many.

Wow this is long, with quite a bit of opinion and I am bracing for the responses (which hopefully won’t be too harsh).

Thankful to be a fan.

I love Bjork so much. She's with a major label, Elektra. How does she manage to get the control/freedom that she has?
