Your favorite/least favourite back to back Prince albums Was having this discussion with my sister the other night and it took us ages to make our minds up so i reckon its a good question for the forum. What are peoples favorite back to back prince albums. That means two albums released consecutively. Having put his work into pairs i noticed that the albums seemed to massively connected in terms of their styles.
Prince/For You - R&B Dirty Mind/Controversy - Dirty Funk 1999/Purple Rain - Electronic guitar Funk ATWIAD/Parade - Psychedelic pop music SOTT/Lovesexy - Insular and Spiritual Batman/Graffiti Bridge - Soundtracks Diamonds and Pearls/Symbol - Hip Hop influenced R&B Come/Gold Experience - Both born out of eachother etc You kinda get the picture and they don't neccesarily have to be in that order. Even his most recent work can be put into pairs..ie his recent jazz leanings. After much deliberation we decided on SOTT and Lovesexy because simply it was a man at the peak of his powers. The material was wildly diverse and the band and live shows from this era were incredible. Our least favorites were Batman and Graffiti Bridge. Simply we looked to our Cds and saw the ones collecting most dust and those were the two. Batman was OK for what it was but GB was poor with only a couple of good Prince songs and some terrible tracks by everyone else. what does everyone else think?

If you're not putting the Black Album between Come and TGE, then you can't put SOTT and Lovesexy back 2 back either "These are the days... these are the days..."

I would the say the Black album/ Lovesexy I agree. I always view those as two sides of the same album. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I'm with you on this one. I like to listen the two back to back and it sounds always like a musical journey from the dark to the light and strongly spiritual...

ATWIAD/Parade - Psychedelic pop music
THE BEST! "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.
RIAA 'nuff said. | |

Favorite:
Black Album/Lovesexy Two wondeful albums that really are like opposite sides of the same coin. In fact, the "Lovesexy 88" tour somewhat reflected the sin and redemption that these two discs represent. Least: NPS/Rave A craptacular double bill! Take the best songs off both of these, and you would have had an almost decent album. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Hmmm... In reality, The Black Album came inbetween Sign O' The Times and Lovesexy.
So I'm going to choose the double-crappy-whammy of Graffiti Bridge/Diamonds And Pearls.
