DIAMONDGEEZA

That is ur opinion, friend.but in all seriousness i think Prince's work since he adopted a new Jazz/experimental style has been a breath of fresh air compared to the pathetic music i have witnessed since the year 2000 came around.British bands like Radiohead,Travis, and Snow Patrol are boring and depressing and american ones are better but still nothing to write home about.Music, whether its rap or European Techno has sold its soul and its roots to the big heartless companies like warner, emi, and so on and does'nt sound as good as it did 10 years ago(all the labels want is money, not good sounds).Prince has stuck to his musical beliefs and changed them to remain fresh. He ain't no plastic pop star or monotonous rock has-been.His album THE RAINBOW CHILDREN IS THE BEST THING I HAVE HEARD from him since The Gold Experience years ago.I am not a zombie who follows him regardless and if Musicology was pathetic i would'nt purchase it because it was bad but i honestly don't see prince releasing a bad record as he is one of the only musical geniuses this planet has left.Use your mind and maybe ur soul to listen to TRC or N.E.W.S. AND DONT GET SUCKED INTO THE MINDLESS WORLD OF COMMERCIALISM.U WONT REGRET IT!!!!!

know what, ewm?

instead of bein so quick to shoot stuff down and continually sayin "i don't like this/that/whatever's clever", why don't ya just...i dunno, be thankful that p's still around? that's the least you can do. i myself don't care too much for what p puts out nowadays either--i'll be the first to admit it, i ain't ashamed--but i'm glad that he's still out there and doin his thing, regardless. nevermind the b.s. that pops up at times and that pisses us fans/friends/freex/geex/fams/whoever off... for one solitary moment, just be thankful that prince is still in the biz, as opposed to just sayin he's crap. and before you say anything else about my statement, i'ma stop ya:

Okay in a word Yes I will continue to collect and support. I just feel he is worth it. The cool think about Prince where as most other artist would be resting on their past hits. He continues to create.
See I disagree with EWM. I think that Prince's artistic output has been really incredible. I mean TRC I did not connect with 100% but that don't mean the music sucked. On the contrary I found it quite adventurous and really very good. I just did not connect. NEWS on the other hand still amazes me so I have no complaints there. I don't really like the Musicology song but I think it has that potential to grow on me. I am expecting great things from this album. Oh and I have never seen Prince put on a lame show of any kind. Hell I even have that Las Vegas DVD and he was awesome in that. He was doing something no other artsit ever really does and that is something different say what you want but that was a pretty ballsy tour all things considered. So that is where I stand on those issues. But I agree with you if you don't like the music hell no you shouldn't buy it!!!!! What's the point of that?

It's the Headline of this thread that is so offensive. Just because his lastest piece of work isn't exactly what you expect to hear from him - you says "SHITS ON". Come on - give us all a big break - the man still is a musical genius. Just saw the Leno performance last nite. I thought it was a beautiful - flawless perfomance and I woke up this morning still high on it.

Sure people can express an opinion - but to run the man down like this is just an insult.

The simple fact of the matter is that an artist is either a master of his craft or he/she is not. The fact that Prince is a master and a pioneer in his art is without question. How you are I feel about a particular body of work that he produces whether it be a song or a series of albums does not diminish this fact. In simple terms that you can relate to ... just because you don't like the music he has been making doesn't mean that it isn't good. I can say this because I don't particular care for most of the music that he has made as of late but at the same time he is my favorite artist and I feel his music is a gift from GOD. As he stated so brilliantly on Tavis Smiley ... those that do not appreciate his new music are simply reflecting what is inside of them. I took no offense to that statement as one who only listens to his older music because he is correct. It is not only he that changed and grew but so did I as we all should. Your incapacity to accept his change and growth reflects your inability to accept the nature of change as well as your deficient growth into a true adult. You probably suffer from the 'Al Bundy' syndrome.

As for you comment about his shows ... that is just simple ignorance. I don't know what shows you been going to but when he comes to the ATL he rocks the house and gives us just what we want. He may slip in some new stuff here and there but the last five times I have seen him I have never been disappointed. One time he had the flu and his voice wasn't right but he spent extra time on the piano and it was one of the best out of all the Prince concerts I have been to. I would suspect that you have not been to a Prince concert since Purple Rain tour or Love Sexy.

I am surprised that you had no response to my comment given the fact that you spent a significant amount of time responding to all of the other comments posted within the same time frame. I will assume that you are taking the big 'L' and giving me the big 'W' on that one.

Interesting question. I do sometimes wonder about my own fan level as I have liked almost everything he's done. I have to admit that TRC is one of my favourite albums and that I am really looking forward to 'Musicology'.

However, I am tight with money, so if he did do something that was crap (in my opinion), I like to think I wouldn't buy it.

Well, well, well. What do we have here? Headline reads, "Prince Shits On 2004". This thread seems very strange to me. "Prince Fans"....hmmmm! See I maybe one of the few on here that goes WAY back with his Purple Majesty. You know, back when I had to sneak out of the house because it was a school night, to go and see this "strange" looking guy come out and perform in nothing but a trench coat, briefs, and heels. Did I mention that this concert took place at a skating rink? Yea, i was there from the jump. When I used to get teased and called a "White Boy" for listening to Prince scream at the top of his lungs. Yea, there from the start! I used to "recruit" for the man. Put nieve people on. Have gone to see him both in the U.S. and in Europe. Now, that some of you Prince fans have let this Evil White Male Man get you upset is beyond me. True Prince fans are bigger than that!!! True Prince fans will tell you, the man is a musical genuis DECADES before his time. That is why so many people within this very thread have said that they have shelved some of his CD's only to come back and listen to them later (as their minds have matured ), just to realize how good that CD truly is. This is what and who he is. A leader, never a follower. People like Andre 3000 is hot right now. How many years ago was Prince playing that style? WAKE UP folks!!!!! You're not dealing with Flea or Bono here. To compare is showing your lack of knowledge ot the man that this thread is about!!!

Consistancy? Lack there of? Let's get real here. There has yet to be such a prominant ARTIST in our generation that is more consistant the Prince. His consistancy lies in who he is at the time people! He is NEVER gonna give you the same thing TWICE. FORGET ABOUT IT! That's not what Prince is about. Why would he want to hit his true fans with another Purple Rain or Sign O the Times? He's been there, done that. His talent level is way to strong, i repeat, WAY TO STRONG to work backwards. He's consistant within his inconsistancies ( let that marinate for a minute ). You never know what to expect from Prince. He has NEVER been one that has even been considered PREDICTABLE.!!!

I have so much to say, so much teaching to do, yet, so little time. "Prince Shits On 2004"? Prince never shits on his music. You may not be where he is at, at the time his CD is released, but, if you are a Prince fan, one day you will be, and that day you will recognize his genius.

As for his live performances.....there really isn't a need for me to make that step forward is there?

In that case money will do him no good at all.

Right on fails1999! That's the thing. Prince lives his LIFE and makes art about it. Nobody is the same 1, 2, 5, 10 years on. It would be dishonest of Prince not to let his art reflect that. And we are all moving and growing so hey! we don't always synch up w/ Prince on any given album, year, or period. So what?

I admire bands like AC/DC that figured out what they do well and stick with it. But you know? They keep making the same album over and over and its not fresh anymore. And its not really honest because they're 60 year old millionaires trying to write like juvenille deliquents. Tough to pull off convincingly!!

I support Prince because he constantly makes me think and even if I don't like a given album or song there is SUBSTANCE there. INTEGRITY. Maybe down the line I'll get it. Maybe I won't. But that's OK. I know that its GENUINE.

That's why I love him.
