FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRINCE “MUSICOLOGY’ TOUR HITS UNITED STATES -- “SCHOOL’S IN” PRINCE CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF “PURPLE RAIN” WITH NEW CD “MUSICOLOGY” AND CONCERT TOUR PER4MING SOME OF HIS MOST WELL KNOWN HITS 4 THE LAST TIME Los Angeles, CA—February 24, 2004---For the first time in six years, pop star Prince and the New Power Generation band are embarking on a coast-to-coast concert tour of the United States. These concerts will feature Prince per4ming some of his most well known hits live 4 the last time. The tour comes on the heels of Prince’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and his heart-stopping Grammy opening performance with multiple-award-winner Beyonce. The launch of the tour also coincides with the release of Prince’s new CD, “Musicology.” Prince has sold more than 100 million records and is regarded by fans and critics alike as a monumental force and influence in popular culture. During the '80s, Prince emerged as one of the most singular talents in the history of music, releasing a series of groundbreaking albums that both defined and captured the spirit of the times. With each successive album, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, topics and genres. Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied. The tour launches in Los Angeles on March 29th and continues throughout the spring and summer, hitting more than 38 of cities. The concert will be set up in the round, with a center stage, allowing for many more great seats in each venue. Tickets and information are available on Prince’s web site at www.npgmc.com and Ticketmaster and Tickets.com. Each show will be one long dance party with Prince supplying the music! The production lives within the players themselves...no gimmicks, no pre-recorded music and no prisoners taken! Performing with Prince are New Power Generation band members John Blackwell (drums), Greg Boyer (trombone), Candy Dulfer (saxophone), Chance Howard (trumpet), Renato Neto (piano and synthesizers), Maceo Parker (saxophone), RAD. Well, it's good to know when he'll be playing in Indianapolis, but if this is what the press conference was all about, yawn-a-roonie.

I dont think that's all there was to the press conference, this is just a tour announcement, but we'll have to wait and see The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

Ever since 1993's Act II tour it's been "the last time" to hear the hits. [This message was edited Tue Feb 24 12:46:45 2004 by Romance1600] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

well, the masses probably don't know that, so this may be a good gimmick for the shows. If he plays up the PR 20th anniversary angle, this may turn out to be a success for him. I'm just happy MPLS made the cut for the tour!

Well this did confirm that an album named "Musicology" is indeed coming at the end of March. I would think that's some pretty good news.
But yeah, I'm waiting to hear about which record company is putting out Musicology and the status of his back catalog getting remastered. And he's coming back to North Carolina, kickass!!!

It would be fun if people could come around here to see him. Lawd knows he couldn't even sell out the Orpheum in Mpls last time, so we might need the out of town guests to fill the auditorium. Here's hoping he'll play sometime in June. And maybe take a week outta touring to stay home around that time. |

This is from Housequake:
My friend said it was nice to get a free show at 11 in the morning...Musicology will be free with every concert ticket / issued on several labels at once + download for .77 cents per track on the site.
Prince will also play Essence Festival and at R&R HOF (longer set than usually occurs)

yawn-a-roonie LOL on that one. EXACTLY. No whining...I figure SF is in the tour cue somewhere. But I don't know why he made a big deal about it as to even send out a special announcement to npgmc members. It seems that most of us are in the know...hence no surprise on the announcement. So, this is probably a big deal to to the general public. But still a tour announcement is not that big of a deal...he's always been "on tour" imo. Was hoping for something a little more exciting...but o'well...used to it now, I guess. Christian Zombie Vampires

COOL NEWS Can someone post the ticket prices from the NPGMC site? If it's "in the round" I wonder how presale tickets will be distributed. I'm waiting to see if I need to join the damn club or if good seats will be available through ticketmonster... I still can't see how he's going to be able to fill STAPLES CENTER unless he advertises the shit out of this show. The best thing would be ongoing radio adds to hype it all up. After all the prince-geeks and their guests buy the tix I forsee a half-empty stadium. I hope I'm wrong. I also hope this is not a medleys-show as I plan to take various friends in the "music biz" who have no idea how incredible a Prince show can be. yeah...but then again he's goin on an arena tour, seems like...think he'll try and play at the target center? if so, it'll be really hard for 'im to fill the place up, methinx. Here's hoping he'll play sometime in June. And maybe take a week outta touring to stay home around that time.
somethin betta go on then, i miss everybody!!!!

Moderator | Finally!
Back to Ft. Lauderdale. That's where it all started for me back in 92 ya know? Back then we had the sunrise music theater which was verly PLUSH. I heard the Jehova Witnesses bought it though. Now it's a convention hall or something like the other concert center accross the street from work. Marlin Manson was the last to play there, then the jw's swooped up and bought that one. It's getting harder to see a concert in south florida anymore. I haven't been to the Office Depot center yet. Or have I? Places like that seem to change names more than Prince around these parts. Cool. I guess I'll go and pull out the 'ol plastic this saturday then! All Rights Reserved. |

At least I have some time to save up some money since the MPLS date kinda looks to possibly be in the summer. I haven't seen him in a full blown concert since the Northrop Auditorium. NCC2012... your local Trekkie. =/\=

I hope the he plays Target Center, and not Xcel. Better acoustics, in my book. I'll be pumped either way, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
