PRINCE...WE SALUTE YOU

nod smile yes prince may not be able to write a good single anymore but let's take our hats off to the greatest musicial force of the 80's. the beatles did it in the 60's, stevie wonder, bowie and led zeppelin did it in the 70's and prince was the main man in the 80's and he will always be remembered for that.
every creative genius runs out of juice eventually but what a great run prince had with those first nine albums showing amazing musicial growth and innovation. prince ,we salute you.

As with all these subjective lists, my opinion is that this one sucks.

In so many ways.

fishslap leave the JAMC alone missy, they were a VERY important band. they may have only had one "Hit" but they had many, many killer songs that got air play and recognition in their time.

lol

that being said this list is cracked. The exclusion of Duran Duran and Depeche Mode speaks volumes!

oopskies!

Paul Simon's peak was in the 60's & 70's -
he was no 80's artist anymore then
Paul McCartney
or Elton John
and even less an 80's artist then Phil Collins who isn't on your list.
&
You picked Dexy's Midnight Runneres
over Depeche Mode or Pet Shop Boys????

?????!!!!!

Porn star who pioneered the use of very demanding drum solos in his films such as "Snare that babe".

He's actually very talented. nod

I'm sure he is, but he's hardly a major musical force in the 80ies in front of Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Metallica. Public Enemy etc..
This list must be a joke

Hüsker Dü and R.E.M. were the two American post-punk bands of the '80s that changed the direction of rock & roll. R.E.M. became superstars; Hüsker Dü never was more than a cult favorite. Nevertheless, their albums between 1981 and 1987 have proven remarkably influential; they provided the sonic blueprint for the roaring punk-pop hybrid that crossed over into the mainstream in the early '90s.
Not only did they shape the sound of the music, they shaped the way independent bands made the transition to the major labels; they showed other bands that it was possible to record uncompromising music on a major label without losing any integrity or creative control. From the Replacements to Nirvana, the Pixies to Superchunk, nearly every major and minor band that appeared in the alternative underground in the late '80s and '90s owed a major debt to Hüsker Dü, whether they were aware of it or not. guitar
