why do you think prince wears a wig or hair piece?

lately i often see topics wher sompe people comment how prince wears a wig?
why do you think like that?
he always had great hair.
black people either have hair whole their life or they don't have it at all.
give some facts ,i think prince's hair is all natural.

Watch the Aladin DVD closely, especially Sometimes it snows. He's balding.

Who cares anyway?! I would, still.

No. Fuken. Way.

He may be thinning (not balding), but he's got an otherwise full head of hair.

Maybe it's because his father was bald, or maybe it's because his hair looks very sparse on top, in interviews, starting with the Oprah one in 96. Lots of men thin and grey but he's in a business where he must conceal this as long as possible. I heard Liberace also was bald and Elvis was thinning at the time of his death.

if you're trying to be a smartass, the gene is carried on the mother's side.

Well let's see sometime around the mid-nineties to late 90's his hair started noticibly thinning in the front. If he moved wrong and the hair moved it was VERY obvious I sat in the front row at dozens upon dozens of shows at Paisley Park and it was very obvious that he was losing some hair. It's not a big deal at all (If it is I have problems) but there was no denying that it was happening. Besides his dad is bald....

Fast forward to today and watch the Tavis Smiley show and notice the BIRDS NEST on the top of his head and try to deny that something unnatural is going on.

Well, speaking as one of those who has mentioned his perpetual wiggage, I'll give a short rundown as to why:

1) He's been no stranger to wigs and weaves, for years. Graffiti Bridge's length was augmented by a bit o' weave. You can tell, probably most clearly, on the "Thieves" single cover.

2) Others have documented P's thinness during the Gold video and Oprah interview. No need to beat that horse.

3) Compare that emerging pate we see in the Aladdin DVD with the super thickness visible in his Grammy and Tavis spots. It just doesn't add up. And, I'm not hating (though I could be a customer of the Hair Club for Men, if I weren't such a realist), but you even give his hair in the Musicology video more than a passing glance and you can tell that thing's a few strands away from being a flat-out KNIT CAP. omg It just don't look ... natural.

4) Prince has just about admitted to his use of wigs in Prettyman. I'd hoped he'd go the Matt Lauer road -- but more tastefully done -- as opposed to the Billy Taylor rug route. But, hey, to each his own (ego).

You need to do a bit more research on the subject of pattern baldness.

The "the baldness gene is carried by the mother" theory is nothing more than a myth.

In actuality, medical studies over recent years show the hair loss gene does not get passed down only from the mother, nor does it 'skip a generation' (another myth).

Research also is beginning to indicate there isn't even merely just *one* single hair loss gene, but instead that pattern baldness is likely due to the interaction of *several* genes inherited from BOTH parents.

If Prince is going bald he could have inherited that trait from either his mother OR father.

Whether or not Prince is balding I have no clue.

Furthermore, who cares.

Do some homework before you type something like this.

That's an old wives tale... I suppose wearing a hat makes you bald too?

You inherit both of your parents genes, if your daddy's bald, 50% chance you will be too. If your mother has weak nerve endings in her scalp, add another 50% to your chance of being bald.

I don't think Prince wears a wig, but he either had hair restoration surgery, is using Propecia, or Rogaine, or both.

But it's all good... he's got an image to uphold, more power to him for whatever method he uses to fight his baldness. I'm with ya P, I'm fighting my baldness too, so I know what I am talking about!

I don't think Prince is wearing a wig or a hairpiece.I don't know where you guys are getting this information from...lol...the only time Prince probably wore any kind of hair extensions is during the 'Graffiti Bridge' era.Look at the cover of the 'Theives In The Temple' or 'New Power Generation' single.

Prince's hair is more than likely thinning, and he ues hair pieces to fill in the really thin areas. Big whoop. But as far as the comments about it looking like a "knit cap", etc., you do realize that his natural hair is not straight right? He's been perming and/or pressing his hair for years and if he just went natural he would have an afro. As a matter of fact in the video for Musicology it looks like he's stopped perming his hair and is just going with a blow dry and light pressing.

And if he wears a wig every now and then, so what. Leave the guy alone. Sheesh.
