If the back catalog gets reissued with no extras, in what order would you buy them again?

Not sure if this was posted recently. With the new announcement coming...He may announce that his back catalog will be reissued. If this was so...and there were no extras included (Lovesexy would be tracked!),and assuming they reissued them at the same time, which ones would you get first...or what order would you get all of them in. Is there anyone that would just go out and get it all? Any you would NOT re purchase? Pretty open ended question here.

Mine would be:
Lovesexy
SOTT
1999
Parade
ATWIAD
Purple Rain
Black Album
The Symbol Album
Dirty Mind
BatMan

the rest....

In truth, I'd definitely buy them all at once on the Credit Card. But I'd hope that each CD would contain a bonus CD with out-takes, alternative versions, B-sides etc.

And in Europe, if you buy Lovesexy now, it IS tracked.

The album I'd most appreciate re-mastered would be Sign O The Times for the reason that it's currently one of my least favourite CDs and I wonder if a re-master might make me appreciate it a little more.

Although the Black Album would sound amazing if it wasn't so tinny sounding.

The only reason i can think of is improved sound quality. That wouldn't be enough to tempt me though either, soundforge or cool edit can do that.

It's a travesty that shit like 'My Little Pill' and 'Jughead' are available on offical albums and amazing tracks like 'Moonbeam Levels' and 'Open Book' are stuck in the vault doing nothing. Makes me wonder if he's forgotten they exist and in the case of 'Extra loveable' if they even still do at all. confused

I'd buy Controversy and maybe 1999
If it doesn't fit, it's ugly anyway.

SOTT - the one most desperately in need of re-mastering - the volume is just way too low (although Sound Check in iTunes/iPod mostly take care of the problem). Without bonus tracks, I probably wouldn't buy much else again - I already have the whole collection.

I'd have to go with ALL OF THEM. If there are extras, as many as I can carry. If it's just remixed/remastered, the older ones first (meaning when the CD came out, not necessarily the original album).

Crossing my fingers for WB and **RHINO** (check out their Elvis Costello series and dream away...)

ONLY if they were re-mastered, I'd start with SOTT and get each one back to 4U, then I may go forward, if I heard there was a good improvement in quality

Listen, if they improved the sound quality of the albums I'd buy them all gladly. Hell, I'd buy them if they had different album covers/pictures.

Look, I have every sympathy for the young naive Prince who signed his first WB deal and didn't know any better. I DON'T have much sympathy for the unfortunately still naive Prince who signed the massive multi-million $ deal in the early 90's thus making himself extremely rich in the process, he should have taken less royalties in exchange for some, if not all control of his masters (like U2 did)

Hard to believe he didn't and bleated about this so-called injustice and bored everybody to death with it for the next 10 years, if not to this day!

I don't know that I buy the premise on this one. I could see reissues of the legendary albums. Purple Rain, 1999 and SOTT. I'd probably grab these.

The others, I just don't know why a record company would do it. There can't be that big of an audience just waiting to buy remastered versions of O+>, Batman, lovesexy, or ATWIAD regardless of how "legendary" they may be on the org. Sure there's audience for them here on the org, but other than that?

Good point! I'd love to see expanded editions of all his albums from 78-88 but i think we'll have to settle for what you've suggested.

How about a multi-disc box set of outtakes for the die-hard fans? that might be an idea.

I'm not buying anything I already own, I tell ya that much. The difference won't be that great, sound levels aside.

Mine is tracked. UK release. 7599-25720-2

Anyway, why the hell would I spend hundreds of pounds buying albums I already own to get slightly different sound quality that neither my ears or my hi-fi would pick up????

Some people have WAY too much money..... smile

I'd definitely get the "classics" (1999, PR, SOTT), and I'd get them all at once.

I wouldn't mind if the CDs don't include anything new, but I would like to see album artwork on the CD label (i.e. the EYE on the 1999 disc). I think that would be a nice touch.

If I had my wish, B-sides would be included after the original playlist, giving us bonus material AND maintaining the original "feel" of the album.

The other CDs would follow, if I noticed that these above 3 were SUBSTANTIALLY different in sound.

Does anyone know which CDs would be remastered? I heard that anything from the 90s on was OK already.

I'd pretty much only buy the ones that are in need of re-mastering (SOTT being the one in most desperate need). 1999 was pretty much already done when it was re-released in the early 90s with "DMSR" added back in (the early pressings omitted this track, because the technology wasn't far enough along to include all the tracks). Lovesexy tracked would be fantastic (and it would be cheaper to buy it domestically than have to order an import).

Pretty much all of the later stuff sounds fine. They would definitely have to include extras to get me to buy those.

I'd buy For You First, cuz it's the only Prince CD I don't own.

Then I'd probably get Lovesexy, if it was tracked. But I'm one of those weirdos who really likes the one-track version.

So many of the classic P albums have really sucky sound...who am I kidding, I'd probably invest in all the stuff up to Batman.

No, not always.

Even when I re-purchased it in the mid-nineties (my previous copy started skipping), it wasn't tracked.

But now...

So, go2theMax, try ordering one from a UK/European online store.

It makes listening to the CD so much better and you'll be able to appreciate the tracks even more (in my humbling opinion).
