nice try but no cigar I'm afraid , we know what the "paisley park is in your wallet" really implied , and its plain wrong .If Prince is giving away the music at the concerts , then its a great thing , but its too much to expect unanimous support from the org on something generous Prince does nowadays I guess.

Hold on! He hasn't even done it. It's only a plan, or worse:... a RUMOUR.

Y'all believe this shit way too easily.

I wouldn't call it a rumor, seeing that Prince stated this at his press conference. However, that does not automatically mean that it will happen. Too many factors to consider it a guarantee.

They won't have the CDs at the concert venues - that would be a logistical nightmare for everyone involved. For one thing, each city on the tour would be getting their copies before the following city and the chances of bootleggers making a profit off that kind of 'staggered release' would prohibit it. The other thing is it's not logical to be handing out copies to concert attendees as they enter or leave the show - it would take forever and is completely inefficient. Most likely when you purchase a ticket they will mail or e-mail vouchers for a free copy to redeem at a local record store when it finally streets.

That makes sense, because it presumably then allows for the record sales to be counted towards chart placings.

I'm also intersted to see how the financial settlement would work with this model regarding the store, distributing company and Prince - because Prince theoretically has all the money up front (via concert sales) for the product redeemed by voucher - but other product paid for in cash would follow a more traditional route.

Well shit, if he plans on charging over $100 for a ticket, he'd damn well better include a CD.

Tickets are in the $55 - $75 range. Larger venues = more tickets sold = lower prices.

Usually larger venues= higher prices. When Prince played MSG or Avery Fisher, tickets were about $125. When he played smaller venues, they were about $55-$75.

Tickets should never cost so much for a single artist. I would only pay over $100 for Ozzfest or Woodstock.

Any dumb-ass here who intends to attend a concert and is still gonna buy the CD from a store?

Come on, own up, it wouldn't be the same without a show of hands from the "fams".

Well, call me a "dumb ass", but I will buy the CD at the store, even if I plan to go to the show. The reason is this: I have no way of knowing if it will happen or not. I think many times Prince intends to do some truly groundbreaking move like this, announces it, then finds out that its logistically not possible (or at least very difficult). I won't wait around, only to find out that I ain't gettin' shit! wink Still, I think its a fantastic idea, and I hope it does happen. I'm not trying to be a "naysayer", I just know that Prince often has bigger intentions than he does resources.

If he actually DOES manage to pull this off, and I wind up with an extra copy, then I'll give it to someone that I think will appreciate it. I don't see anything wrong with that. If that makes me a dumb-ass, then so be it.

Well....I just caught something interesting in our local (Los Angeles) periodical, the LAWEEKLY. The ad for his Staples date has a little blurb on the bottom right that says, "Buy A Ticket Get The New CD For Free At The Show".

Maybe I was wrong. I still think it's a logistcal nightmare if they do it at the show. Besides, where am I gonna put it while I'm up out of my seat groovin?

As I recall, Prince suggested back around 1996 that he was considering doing the same thing with Emancipation. It didn't happen then.

Ok, so...Prince is wanting to give free CDs away to his fans that attend the concerts for being so supportive of him during his career...and the immediate reaction on here is to insult the fans and call Prince/Paisley Park greedy??...

So he shouldn't announce it either, unless he is 100% certain it will work out, which I am fairly sure he isn't. Which leads me to cynically believe this is only said to promote the new album, the tour and the club.

The only possible way to do it is through subscription to the club so they can mail you the cd. Hence this is or can be also good promotion for the club if it becomes the official deal.

well, I sincerely hope he's got it all worked out. If people consider, based on this advertisement, that they will receive a CD inclusive of the ticket price at the show, and the CDs aren't there, it's only going to give cause to people complaining and more.

And you've already pointed out the possible consequences of not having the music available on CD through other outlets at the same time.

Right, this is going to be a nightmare. I can only see them doing this through the NPGMC. Or what? Are they going to hand out free cd's to ten thousand people? I don't think so.
