Take a healthy approach and look at it as another weird turn in Prince's career. Besides there's nothing we can do about it. Actually, those of us who liked TRC should thank Larry.

Larry Graham is a Great Bass player. He plays Slappin Bass very Ferociously. I loved him with Sly,loved him on his own and enjoyed him with Prince. I find him a very nice individual as also his wife Tina . It is pretty Horrible that he get's Attacked because of his faith and because Prince Stopped Cursing. I think Prince is a Grown Man and he became Bored and wanted to Change. I don't Think Larry was to Blame for this Change. Prince Matured.

I don't care about the cursing thang, but i want Prince to make MUSIC, like he used to before meeting Larry. Understood now?

It is a never-ending source of amusement to me the way so many fams assume that Prince is some sort of a very naive, influenceable child and that Larry Graham is this Svengali-esque manipulator. Such an paranoid view of the universe.

Lol. I guess i like you, but you have to try harder. Create your own

the electric bass. YOu think you can do that? I`d love to see that.

I have invented a new way of playing electric slap bass - I catch one first , plug it into the mains by the gills and slap my other band members in the face repeatedly. Does that make me an innovator??? Oh and I do usually get paid for doing this - but today I am making an exception....

I like the direction Prince's music took after he met Larry.....
and besides that Prince says that he was influenced by the man's music
way b4 he met the man.
Prince was a genius musician b4 he met Larry, but the influence can be seen
in the lyrical content.
I love Prince.
I love Larry.
I love me, too.

You know, if I made this kind of comment about Wendy, a moderator would send me one of those lame messeges and delete my post. Think about it, real fans.

Anyway, get yourself a Sly Stone cd, if you don`t have any.
I am sure "There`s a riot going on" oor "Fresh" will enlighten your thoughts.
Have fun.

No thanks, I think I can live the rest of my life in ignorant bliss of sly stone...

Ultimately it's Prince's fault for adopting Larry's faith and guidance. But how can we not be pissed of when he makes songs like The Christ? All because Larry taught him that Jesus died on a stauros. If Larry had never entered the picture, Prince at least would have left his old songs alone.

I think the original question was what impact Larry had on Prince's artistic growth.

I don't see much of an impact.

I think that Prince went through a period of being high on the opportunity to collaborate with Larry and maybe took it too far with his live sets. Too much Larry air time and too many covers of old Sly tunes started to wear thin, especially when you go to a concert primed to hear you favorite Prince music, old or new. Larry seemed to enter at a time that Prince's live sets got a bit stale. Fans wanted to hear new Prince music or at least older tunes that hadn't been done in concert very often, but instead we got I Wanna Take You Higher and Everyday People. Again. And again. And yet again.

But as far as the recorded music, I don't hear Larry's infulence in the music itself. You can argue about how much impact Mr. Graham had on Prince's spiritual directions, but TRC sounds like Prince -- not Larry Lite.

Prince's style has always been a gumbo of all the music and influences he comes across. If Larry was an influence, that sound has been baked in since the beginning and hasn't sounded to me like a new revelation.

There's no argument - it's a fact that Graham brainwashed him.

Whatever titles Larry deserves, you must also add father of funk bass who single handedly influenced an entire genre of groove.

Unfortunately Tony I charge a lot more than 50 euros - lol - try nearer 450/hour and you would have all my attention!

But you should see that little fishy when I slap it - oooooh its just funky and no-one else does it either - you can just SMELL the funk

Seriously tho - I accept he's a great musician - props to him - but he needs a new stylist this you have to agree - unless you too go in for kid creole fashion and village people facial hair eek

Because with Lovesexy, Prince gave us a choice, you either accepted it, or you didn't.

The Rainbow Children, Prince got more in your face with his jw religion.

Sadly, it looks like whenever we bring up Old Mr. Graham, the topic's bound to take a nosedive... Now where did I put that damn thing...
