It is hard to compare it to the promoting of anything earlier because of the internet and the nature of the music business methinks. Opinions?

at this point, it's kinda too early to tell how he's doin...he just got started up with the whole interview/performance bit. might wanna wait a little bit so we can really start comparing the three in terms of promotion.

Yeah, at this point all I can really say is that he's made some good moves early on towards promoting the new album.

What's this Musicology project I've only been reading about on Princenerds?

So far so good, I say. There was something a little obnoxious about the Rave promotion, like it was too little, too much, too late...and Emancipation was just a mess, mainly due to unforeseen circumstances. This time around, I like that he's focusing on just putting his face and his talent back out there, and kinda mumbling "oh by the way, we have an album coming out this year..."

And the Grammys was a nice touch.

who says the album will b called Musicology?

P never had a cd caled Love4oneanother but there was a site called that.

That war is over, he's Prince again.

If he doesn't feel he's sacrificing his artistic integrity to sign again, then you certainly shouldn't worry about it.

Besides, more ppl should hear Prince anyway. He deserves some well known respect and recognition finally.

I'm worried that he's started the promotion too early - it doesn't seem there's gonna be a new record for at least a month, and if it's for general release, it doesn't seem Prince has even finished a deal with a distributor yet, despite all these rumours of talks... Which may leave an internet only release months before a general release is sorted, which kind of dilutes the impact.

And if Musicology (the song) is to be a single, he needs to promote that, not play other songs like Reflection AND it needs to be out while he's doing the rounds before people forget it.

So not a great job, really, a bit like Rave... saying there's a great album coming, too early, and then not playing the first single on appearances.

to be honest aerosmith have a blues album out about 6 days before prince, and theyve announced it about 2 weeks (release date i mean) before we heard musicology 29th march, plus now we have the tracklisting for that and so on. the timing is ok, remember prince not only needs to let people know there is an album coming out but also he is "back" so to speak and everything. a band like aerosmith are like an institution and prince isnt anymore, so he has to build it up more. i think he's doing ok though, he had the grammies, then later tavis. then this week jay leno. building up slowly.
