I'm naturally drawn to Parade, but also like the Hits cover.

Anyone know if any of these exisit? Also did Prince paint the 1999 cover? It was always my understanding that he did. The Gold Experience cover was originally gonna be printed on foil paper. There were only a very few actually made like this (as mock ups, a year or so before it was released) and at this point the album still included Days Of Wild. And yes, Prince hand drew the cover of 1999 himself. When Prince did "Dolphin" on David Letterman, it's the foil cover that Dave held up. I was really wishin' that that version was released. If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!

I love Lovesexy for the audacity.
I think the Diamond and Pearls holograph was terribly innovative and ambitious. The Rainbow Children cover is a beautiful painting, the colours and movement match the music inside perfectly. The Hits cover is a great, professional, simple, classic, stylish photograph. But my favourite has to be the Parade cover, I suppose it is a bit posey but at the same time it is very expressive and beautifully photographed. I also love the inner cover with him lifting his top to reveal his crucifix medallion - a bit of a femine pose but he still pulls it off and looks cool.

cool thread! I always loved the whole ATWIAD cover with all of the song references in the painting & how all of the singles were parts of it. & Sign O The Times just looks so cool. It is Prince's Sgt Pepper cover "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

I did a re-make of the Rainbow Children cover at the street painting festival here in south florida. BTW, that's fantastic, kudos to you and your talents. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

SIGN O THE TIMES without a doubt. This was P at his creative/stylistic peak and you can see it not only on the actual album cover but also on all of the covers of the twelve inch singles that he released for that record. he looks so great on the sott cover.

1999...there's so much going on if you really look at it, and the eye in the center of the vinyl was slick!
I always wished that the Parade cover would've been the insert from the vinyl...the collage with Wendy in the bathtub and Prince with the sombrero, Wendy hugging Fink, etc. If anyone has that collage photo, PLEASE post it! [This message was edited Mon Feb 23 23:06:06 2004 by VioletBlue]

So hard to choose....
I'll say TRC for its simply beautiful collection of art, and in a close second is The Hits/B-Sides for the perfect way it captures Prince's quiet, dignified mystique. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It's not an "inside cover", it's the "back cover" of the vinyl. in those days, they weren';t yet designing covers for CDs! I got an empty cover from a wrecka stow back in the day, and had it hanging open on my wall. Super cool, but a bit wierd: a doubled-torso Prince joined at the navel!!! You forgot the other half. Parade is really cool because his torso connects to the torso on the cover, right down to his navel.

Oh, and my opinions:
ATWIAD Parade (4 the double-torsoed joint-navel thing) SOTT 1999 Runners up: TRC Come Did I choose too many? "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Sign 'O the Times, hands down.
Maybe it was the supposed return to solitary performance and recording. But, when I was buying the album and seeing the cover for the first time, that photo was very effective at communicating the premise central to Prince: Here's a man (out of focus, yet iconic) standing in front of a stage full of instruments -- instruments who, on this record, will attest to his mastery, wit and inspiration. It just reinforced the feeling that I was about to partake of an incomparable musical journey that would solidify Prince's status as a musical genius who didn't need a Revolution after all.
