That whole album is the BEST-what a great song to open side 2 (before cd's).

Not to say Prince is incapable of making any new great albums, but I bet "Roadhouse Garden" is the only album that could meet "Parade" in that kind of entertaining creativity.

Mountains is a fantastic song . . . the music, singing, and lyrics are all great!

One thing that sets this song apart for me is that the drums or orchestral parts seem to be just a "little bit" off . . . like one is slower, and one is faster . . . just behind the beat a "touch".

This, to me, ADDS to the brilliance . . . anyone else get that impression?

And yes, the 12" remix is the best! Still have it, just wish I had a record player! The 12" cover art is cool too, with the round hat. biggrin

woot! I also LOVE Mountains!!
When the 12" came out I was 14 & picked
it up at the local mom& pop record shop in
my town. I was so excited that while I was
waiting for my parents to pick me up, I
asked the woman if she would play my new
record on the store stereo, and she did!

One of Prince's very best tracks! I wish he would play that one during the upcoming tour, his current band could certainly get away with it!

I know everybody loves this song, but I gotta admit, I love the intro and the groove, but then the song never really changes or goes anywhere. It's a great beat, but it doesn't really change or have a bridge or anything, and I always thought the vocals were a bit airy and wimpy. I wanted prince's voice more out front or something. ya know what I mean?

I have to be honest here & say i've never been totally convinced by this track. In fact, i think it's my least favourite song on the album.
