Wendy is old now (my review of the tavis smiley show)

Prince never aged, but I couldn't help 2 notice how old Wendy looked. She looked like his older Aunt playing the guitar along with him, though they both sounded great. I was just a little bit disappointed when I saw how old Wendy looked. It was like looking at the Kiss video, 20 yrs later. It's kind of depressing. How come Prince never aged ? Man this is one thing I hate about the music business, is watching ur favorite people grow old. The only reason why Prince doesn't think racy is cool anymore, is basically cuz he's old now, he's sounding like a old man who's lived life and ready 2 move on, that sucks. I mean does getting old mean not having fun anymore? wink

I'm surprised Tavis Smiley didn't ask anything about his wife or Andre3000, those where the questions I was waiting for. I was laughing at how Prince called Beyonce' Beyounce with the right pronunciations at the end lol, my grandmother calls her the same thing I was get mad and say it’s BE YONSAY not BEYONCE. Anyways overall I liked the interview, even though it just reminded how old Prince actually is. It’s all good though, Prince is like fine wine, he gets better with age. I just kept getting aggravated cuz he reminds me so much of my father now, it’s really ashamed.

I'd love to see the list of questions and topics that are deemed 'off limits' and are prohibited from being brought up that is given to an interviewer before Prince does interviews. I bet it's 10 miles long.

Damn, don't be so hard on Wendy!! I think the majority of Prince fans do not realize that Prince and the former members of the Revolution are older now. I honestly believe that the fans clamoring for a Prince and the Revolution reunion tour would be dissappointed because the band is different now. These people have gone through changes and numerous life experiences, therefore it will never be like it was in the glory days. I think we should appreciate where they are now and they fact that everyone is sane, in good health and still able to share their musical gifts with us. Like it or not we all get older and Prince is no different. The dude is 45 going on 46 this year and he is a completely different person than he was when he was in his early twenties. It amazes me that Prince gets criticized for growing up. However, when we see someone his age in everyday life acting like a twenty year-old we complain about them being immature and not acting their age. I think the real issue is that as Prince ages a lot of the fans that grew up with him realize that they are aging too. I guess that is somewhat sombering in our youth obsessed culture.

What's so shameful about the aging process? It's fucking NATURE, people, jeeeezus.

Consider the "beauty" of those who try to defy their age...the Michael Jacksons...the David Gests...the Joan Rivers...you'd rather Wendy have a paralyzed Botox forehead, perma-shock face lift eyes and collagen trout lips?

I thought she looked good. She's a middle-aged woman. She ain't Mandy Moore. Get over it.

Not choosing to curse may be a sign of maturity and doesn not imply that Prince isnt having fun anymore. If you have been to a recent concert, you can tell he is having fun and everyone in the audience damn sure is as well.

Prince is aging gracefully as an artist. He isnt trying to ride on Purple Rain some 20 years after it is over. He hasn't fallen off the map and continues to produce great albums on a very frequent basis. Most of all, people are still intereseted in hearing and seeing him - that isnt getting old; thats getting better.

it's just have been so long, I'm still thinking of the wendy from the purple rain days, so when I saw her on the tavis smily show last night, I was like eek . I know we all get old, but still you know you never expect ur favorite stars 2 age, even though they're human 2.

The show highlighted how mature Prince is. I'm happy to see that.

But, I think you're at risk of oversimplifying the differeing lengths to which Prince and Wendy go to mask their aging processes.

Wendy strikes me as being pretty low-maintenance in her approach. She looks like she wets her hair, runs her hand through it and picks up a guitar before hitting the stage.

Prince, on the other hand, employs a TON of makeup, hair pieces, custom-made clothing, etc. He probably makes sure he's shot from certain angles. Shucks, he even was preening and primping when strumming a few chords by himself at the show's open.

As I recall, Wendy's younger than Prince.

It's stupid comments like this that keep the Britney's of the world employed. Were you expecting her to be with her hair the same in Purple Rain sitting there with big furs over her shoulders?? The stupidity here never ceases to amaze me.

After having to wear those get-ups in the Revolution, Wendy's probably all too happy to just wet her hair and run her hands through it anymore.

The way I saw Prince and Wendy perform last night is the way I've wanted to see them for YEARS. With all the foolishness aside, sitting side by side, strummin' their gee-tars and groovin' together. If y'all can't see through a few crows feet and laugh lines to appreciate that, then...well...can't help ya there...rolleyes

Honestly, it was great to see a picture of Wendy Melvoin, looking her natural self, doing what she enjoys, and playing with Prince.

Like I said prince reminds me of my dad, my dad is way older then Prince , but still looks like he’s in his early 30’s. He still has a head full of hair and it hasn’t changed 2 gray yet. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate old age, but still .. confused

From Leah Garchik in today's SF Chronicle:

"Meanwile, Prince and five employees-two hairdressers and three bodyguards- took over the 77 Maiden Lane Salon in San Francisco for two hours on Sunday to prepare him for the show that night.

"Windows were covered with sheeting to guarantee his privacy, but police were called when a stalker who'd been suspected of following Prince around town was seen lurking outside.

"The exact ministrations to Prince are top secret, but I'm told by spies that they weren't anything the everyday matron doesn't do to attend an opera opening."

I think one of the things is, stars and celebrities become iconic at a certain age with a certain look. Michael Jackson has said that people used to expect him to stay the same little kid they first came to know, which probably goes someway to explaining how he looks now - clinging onto 'youth'.

To fans they can be like superhuman gods, and to see them age is like admitting they are human after all. And then they loose interest...

Like it or not, Prince and the people around him are just human. People ask why he doesn't do the splits anymore; well maybe that's because he's 20 years older than when he first started doing them!

Stars more than any other people have to compete with themselves as they used to look, which is why they go to such lengths to stay eternally young looking.

As Prince said, "My only competition is, well, me in the past".
