Apple Computers are like Prince....

Yes I am a fan of Apple Computers. I am also a HUGE fan of Prince. And I have noticed a lot of similarities between the two:

1. Mac Addicts are very loyal to Apple Computers / Prince fans are very loyal to Prince

2. Either you love Macs or you hate them / Prince either you love him or you hate him.

3. Mac Addicts think everyone else is dumb for not liking Macs / Prince fans think everyone else is dumb for not liking Prince

4. Mac Addicts don't want Apple to have a large market share / Prince fans don't want Prince to be mainstream again.

5. Mac Addicts hate PC's / Prince fans hate Michael Jackson

6. PC users hate Macs / Michael Jackson fans hate Prince

7. Mac Addicts think they are smarter for using Macs / Prince fans think they are smarter than the average music listener.

8. Mac Addicts can't understand why people don't use Macs / Prince fans don't understand why people don't like Prince

9. Mac Addicts LOVE gossip about their favorite computer company / Prince fans LOVE the latest gossip on their favorite Minnesotan

10 Mac Addicts can't wait 6 months for a new Apple product / Prince fans can't wait 6 WEEKS without a new Prince album

Just a thought. But I find this to be very true.

May You Live 2 C the Dawn...

Apple is overrated. Seriously, once they were very good, but nowadays you're just paying for something something that's a pain in the ass which they translate into eccentric or "better" rolleyes

Funny, as a big Prince fan myself, I disagreed with some of those comparisons.

1. I'm 97% loyal to Prince. I can't commit completely, you know? Cause sometimes it's like he records EVERYTHING that pops into his head. He's great, but sometimes he needs to rethink and polish some stuff.

2. Yes I agree with this one mostly. Ya gotta love him or hate him. It's pretty unconditional for me, anyway. Especially since I saw him live for the first time in October and he blew me away.

3. I don't think they are dumb, they're just in the dark because they don't him for one reason or another.

4. I'd love it if Prince was mainstream again. Having said that, it's very cool to like him right now BEFORE his supposed comeback.

5. I love Michael Jackson, but he's no Prince. I think what Prince fans detest is any comparison because Prince is leagues ahead of Michael in many ways.

6. Nah, I know a lot of MJ fans who like Prince just as much, if not more. Like me, for example. smile

7. Yeah, but we're not smarter, really and neither are Mac fans. We just share a common emotional/musical understanding maybe.

8. No, I understand why people don't like Prince. He's more complex than a lot of people have time for. Which says something about the people, not Prince.

9. Indeed. We're nerds alike in that way.

10. Or perhaps just a new outtake? I'm happy to wait a year or two if it means quality work. I'm glad he's slowed his output down somewhat.

Interesting and I don't doubt that for specialised operations, Macs can often outdo a PC, but for the average consumer, a PC is the best option. There is just not enough software available for Macs and they are too exclusive in general, replacement parts cost an arm and a leg, too....trust me, I'm still living with a G3, though I use PCs preferably. I'll be buying a PC soon.

not enough software? Exactly what do you want to do that you can't do on a Macintosh? I do admit to one catagory of software you only get on windows - viruses. What's the count, 20,000 viruses for windows, ZERO for MacOS X.

My life wouldn't be the same without iTunes, iPhoto, MacOS X, Codewarrior, Safari, iChat AV, etc., and my kids just love GarageBand. I have a Windows machine too - I have to, I develop software for both OSes. I just use the windows machine for testing because it drives me nuts to use it for anything else. Just how many things can they get wrong? Here's some quotes I've accumulated over the last year

"... Our products just aren't engineered for security."
- Brian Valentine - Microsoft senior v.p., Windows development.

Mr. Gates acknowledged today that the company's error reporting service indicated that 5 percent of all Windows-based computers now crash more than twice each day.

"Windows applications don't look all that great, do they?"
- Bill Gates - 2003

"But more than two years after its introduction, not a single Mac OS X-specific virus has yet appeared."

"each dual G5 can deliver a peak of 16 GFlops of double-precision performance. That is more than a modern Cray node."
- Dr. Srinidhi Varadarajan - Virginia Tech supercomputer builder

"There are two kinds of people in New York: Those that have an iPod, and those that want one"
- New York Post - 2003

Also, try this page

where you can "Browse the software section for over 18,000 Macintosh applications and software titles."

Exactly how many programs do you need?

I second that emotion! After I made the switch to Mac, I had a sense of freedom that I had never felt before. All of a sudden, I felt creative and no longer felt as if I were restricted. When I leave the flourescent lit hell that is my office, I look forward to coming home and relaxing in the GUI oasis of OS X.

Okay, that's a bit dramatic. But it doesn't change the fact that Macs are the shiz!

BTW... That was a hot pic, Chook! I think you need to start the OS X posse!

having both at work 4 some time now...as a graphic designer.....I'll take a XP box over OS10.2 anyday...mac used 2 b the leader....but now they seem 2 b putting more time in2 gimmicks and 'cool looks' than in2 real computing difference...the cost of a mac vs a PC just ain't worth it....I'll save my $$$ 4 a rainy day thank u Apple smile maybe thats Y I spend it on Prince!!!
But I agree - mac and Prince fans share a lot in common ....I just don't know Y mac users don't like PCs....mainly cos all they know is MAC perhaps....I wonder how many MAC users have used a 'modern PC in the last year or so...and not a shitty HP or 'off the shelf' type PC- they r as bad as Macs....I know both and don't even bother with the G4 no more....the amount it cost 4 work - I coulda bought 3 PC's 4 the same $$$...the end reult on both is the same....just the journey is different....hence it all comes down 2 what u like....and I just don't like wasting $$$ (he says thinking of how much $$ I have spent on P....but thats not wasted now is it!)

Sartoria

I have used Macs for over 4 years and never had a virus or worm and only had to deal with the occasional screen freeze using OS 9. Now using OS X Panther is just too sweet.

Reasons Macs are better:

1. Stability - the operating system and the hardware being designed by the same company to be used together equals a more stable system. Microsoft's OS must work with 100s of different PC configurations.

2. Security - besides the constant virus/worm problems, a Microsoft Operating System is just inherently insecure. It is laced with vulnerabilities right out of the box and Microsoft knows it and does little to correct things in a timely matter. Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are just as bad if not worse. In the past three years Apple has introduced two new Operating Systems in Jaguar and Panther and made them even more secure and stable than their previous OSs. Microsoft's new operating system won't be out until 2006! Watch Screen Savers on Tech TV any night of the week and their hosts, (mainly Windows users), are constantly slamming Microsoft for their security flaws.

3. Applications - iTunes, Quicktime, Expose, Safari, ect. just work better than any Windows counterpart. WMP is no match for QT. Safari now is far superior to IE in every respect. Expose is just something Windows users wish they had.

4. OS X - is the simply the best, most stable, most modern all-purpose operating system out there by a wide margin. Being based on UNIX, which is regarded as the best industrial-strength operating system, means that OS X is inherently more stable and if an application crashes, it doesn't crash your entire computer. You don't have to restart your computer.

I for one don't hate PCs. It just seems odd that so many people put up with such poorly designed system and actually defend it because they can play more games on a PC than on a Mac, or Macs don't have as much third party software. While that may be true, most everyday home users aren't hardcore gamers nor need any such software that Macs don't offer. As for someone who complained that Macs cost too much, well that is subjective. Because it is a fact that Macs hold their resale value much better than their PC counterparts.

Until the day Microsoft gets their act together and builds a secure and stable OS that has the users interest in mind, Macs will always be better. But being the monopoly power that they are, I don't see that happening any time soon.

What the...I until two years ago was a PC only guy. Now I have my dual 1.25 G4 with 512MB RAM, 200 HD. Radeon 9800 PRO graphics. OS X 10.3 Panther. And I can do anything with confidence. My OS NEVER crashes, Video/Music was never easier.

And this is comming from a guy who built his PC's....

Windows is for sheep.
