Emancipation album will be valued collectible soon

if it isnt already. It is out of print. People are going to be looking for it and the chance of it coming back is small since it is 3 CDs. When real music lovers go back and dig into the catalog, they will revisit the many overlooked gems on this album. Then people will realize that it just isnt sitting on the shelves with Purple Rain in the record stores. I bought an extra a few weeks ago at a FYE store for $5 and kept it unopened. If you love Prince, you love this album.

They can't get rid of the fucking thing. It goes for 3 or 4 quid everywhere.

In fact, I imagine next time there's a sale, it will be free, and they'll give you 5 quid just get rid of the thing.

THIS could be his most brilliant album ever!

It's got funk, it's got classic re-makes, it's got undeniable love songs,
it' got electro-fusion, ...and, it's got THE HOLY RIVER!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

There are some truly wonderful songs on this album. I think that interest in it will grow as a curiosity once Mr P has departed this mortal coil..... people will wonder what the fuss was about when he finally freed himself from the tyranny of WB...and they'll discover the fuss was about nothing really (Oh, and that WB still owned the rights to these tunes....doh!)

The Love We Make, just to mention one, is a song that should be up there with all the Prince "classics"...there are a few others too. Besides that, the vibe of the whole thing is a bit cool, especially CDs 2&3.

I like it. There y'go.

Wasn't really saying it's a bad album, it's not. But a valued collectable? disbelief Nope. As Romance 1600 said they can't give it away!

Although the album has some nice musical ideas, it is spoiled to a large extent IMHO by the stale-sounding drum machine and synthesizers.

If it had been recorded with the '95 era NPG (Michael B's drums in particular), I believe it would have been a much stronger album. (IIRC, Savior and The Love We Make are the only two songs that feature the '95 era NPG playing... the rest are 100% studio.)

Thank you! No other album shows the breadth and depth of Prince's genius. Of course, it can be overwhelming to the less intelligent listener with a limited musical and artistic vocabulary.

lol co-sign.

It's mainly terribly-produced tripe, with around 10 or so average tracks over the 3 discs which are worth compiling just to have a relatively easy to listen to Prince album to enjoy with your non-Prince-obssessed other half.

It's cool, but there's some kind of plain stuff on there (for Prince anyway) that overshadows the good stuff. My girlfriend bought this on cassette when it came out, spent her hard earned money and had to skip songs, and it was the last prine album she bought. Too much work to deal with all of it.

I listen to it still, and like most of it, but what a classic it would have been if it was only 2 cd's.

Don't believe me, well imagine if Prince had his way and made Purple Rain a true double soundtrack, with all the songs from th movie on it. Prince fans would love it, but it wouldn't have been that perfect sequence that it came to be from Let's Go Crazy to Purple Rain... I think it would have fallen into the Graffiti Bridge territry and not have been so popular.

Last time I saw Emancipation at the Snelling Avenue Cheapo, it was 19.99. I feel sorry for the poor bastard who picked that up.

I FEEL U ON THIS NPGLOVER...I DO NOT LOVE EVERY SONG ON THIS SET, BUT THIS ALBUM HAS SOME OF THE GREATEST LOVE SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD FROM PRINCE, CD2 IS FU#@KIN HONEY-DRIPPER, THEN COMES JOINT2JOINT- ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVES FROM P IN THE 90'S. THIS SET COULD HAVE USED JOHN BLACKWELL, BUT U CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING YA WANT. THERE ARE GEMS & FLOPS ON EVERY DISC, BUT 2 CUT THE SET DOWN 2 ONE CD WOULD HAVE BEEN A CRIME. THIS ALBUM IS A CLASSIC, NO MATTER HOW MANY FANS DISLIKE IT.....TAKE A CLOSER LISTEN NAY-SAYERS, THERES SOME GOOD STUFF HERE. BRAKE THE CHAINS, BRAKE THE CHAINS! lol
