I'll give it a 5. Deeply introspective, melancholy but at the same time romantic.

It's pretty weak actually. No real depth in this track.

Beautiful song and very touching; goes by too fast though!
Love hearing him play this way as much as I love the funk; reminds me of the acoustic night at the Celebration...
Very soulful - I give it a 5 for both strength and depth cool

i dig it, both musically and lyrically... i am especially fond of the lyrics, though... they've got that prince feel, but kinda different... more whimsical... i dunno... i'm down with it...

Studio, 3/5. It's not spectacular, but it's a pleasant enough little song. I wouldn't mind a new album with the same vibe.

As for the live version, we'll see tonight!

Well I just saw it today off the net and my first impression was that it's quite similar to some stuff on the truth, like Circle Of Amour - the way he drops the narrative, so I thought nah this is boring and the guitar playing is not as exciting as say, the song The Truth. I'll watch it again, maybe I'll see something else

2.5/5 so far

I give this song about a 3.5. Better than average but not great. A really good song for another artist though. I love the lyrics and subject matter. Stuff that I've been thinking about lately. I've been reflecting myself(pulled out the yearbooks a couple of years ago...even one from Jr. High).

It's a pleasant, nice little song, but it lacks something special.

i don't know...i was just thinkin' bout my mother'

DAMN! I wish people on this website would understand the beauty of "time". A lot of people want to judge evertthing on instaneous response. Give "art" some to "sink in" then give your "honest" opinion. I think Reflection is beautiful. And I agree it reminds me of "Circle of Amour" but wasn't that era like years ago! My question is "Is the glass half empty, or half full?".....

If you listen to the lyrics.... It's brilliant....
The music is very well done....
I think it's as good as anything he has done.

Beautiful song.....

guitar

2 sevens together,
like time, indefinite,
try to catch the glass
before it falls,
without a frown,
can you turn up the stereo?
I wanna play you this old song,
it's about love,
can I do that?
Did we remember
to water the plants today?
I forgot to look up at the moon
because I was too busy,
yes, I was too busy,
too busy
looking at you,
oh, baby,
still, it's nice to know
that, uh, when bodies wear out,
we can get another,
what does that one thing
have to do
with the other one?
I don't know,
i was just thinking about
my mother,
you know what?
Turn the stereo back down,
ain't nothing worse than
an old, worn-out love song,
do you like my hair this way?
Remember all the way back
in the day
when we would compare
whose afro was the roundest?
Mirrored tiles
above the bed,
fishnets and posters
all over the walls,
oh, yeah,
sometimes I just wanna go out,
you know what I mean,
playing my guitar,
just watch all the cars go by...

I agree. I downloaded this song when it was 1st available on NPGMC and I have to say I wasn't that thrilled with it. However, like many Prince songs, every time I listen to it I like it more and more. Its a beautiful song. Its simplicity is its strength.

I give it a 4 out of 5. It's a great song, period.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Standing alone the track is nice. The personal nature of it makes it much more than it could ever be purely musically.

However, in the context of a strong, diverse album, it could be outstanding. It's a perfect mood changer for an album but of course it's not a single, but alongside 10 good songs, including some great ones, it would be perfect.

On a good album not every track has to be an absolute killer track. Sometimes something a little more subtle, and a little reserved but thoughtful, can be rendered great by its surrounding tracks.

Ultimately an album has to be looked at as a whole and on the right album Reflection would be a definite positive, as something of simple, honest beauty.

It's so-so, I never really listened to the studio version that much (maybe once, twice if that), but watching the live version, it made me think of how Prince is maturing, and how nice that is, sitting there with Wendy, It seemed to me like she was feeling his maturity at the moment too. Maturity in terms of not going over and over on the same ground again and again.

It might not be outstanding music in my opinion, but it has been very promising to hear the music Prince has been putting out since The Rainbow Children - it certainly beats the stuff he was releasing just a year or two prior to TRC - like the Rave project.

I would *never* want to here Prince make a new release of something like 'Hot Wit' U' ever again - that kind of derivitive, treading-water, genre-pouncing jerk-off is more embarrassing than any 'Wedding Feast' and more snooze-worthy than N.E.W.S.

From TRC and onward, I get the feeling Prince is musically finding himself again.

It's like Rave showed him that he doesn't feel comfortable doing Purple Rain wannabe albums anymore, so now he's on this journey towards a creative reawakening.

TRC showed me that he's still capable of creating great, original songs (1+1+1=3), even if the jazz heavy album as a whole didn't really captivate me.

Once he gets tired of the completely jazzy sounds and instead focuses on that 1+1+1=3 kind of experimental funk, I'll be extremely satisfied.

The song Reflection itself doesn't really impress me though. It feels like it's building to something really special, but it never quite gets there.
