New CD given away free; a good move IMO, giving away the new CD at the concerts is a pretty smart move.
Prince wants to people to hear his new music, and figures a big-time hits tour will draw large crowds. Virtually every one of the thousands who show up each night will listen to the CD. If P comes with the good S*** this time around, he may pick up legions of new fans, or at least re-interest casual fans in his new music. | |

Who said it is "the new CD". It could be NEWS...or old copies of Rave that were taking up space in the warehouse. I doubt he'll give away copies of the new album.

Yeah, most likely it will be something he can't shift from the back of the paisley warehouse - copies of NEWS and stuff like that. Hoping for something new, but it's more unlikely than likely. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To be honest, I wouldn't be too happy if he really gives out such free copies (and I think it's very unlikely). Cool for those who are there, but what about the vast majority that isn't? | |

I think this free giveaway is a great idea.
The majority of the times a long term big time rock/pop star like Prince releases a cd of new songs & tours what happens is the tour is extremely successful while the cd only has so-so sales. The free cd will re-introduce the fans to his music which hopefully will translate into sales. | |
