Bro, the "I don't see color argument" doesn't cut it. Everyone sees color, its how you process it that matters. If you really believe you don't see a person's color then I'm curious as to why you made this comparison?
"I agree that he is better than Arsenio, but that goes for every interviewer out there." I thought you didn't see color? Other than their complexion and the fact they have been talk show hosts, what the hell else do they have in common? Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Anyway, I'm just curious, how could you have gone years without knowing that "nigga" is an offensive word when used by white people in America? First off, I don't care what is "played out", but the truth is the truth (as Prince might say). "nigga" is offensive to some people and not offensive to other people. I knew that in a nation 300 million people that someone could potentially be offended by it, but I didn't think that many people cared much about it either way. But apparently a significant minority of people do care (and were a bit offended), so I've learned something and won't use the word again on here unless it is clearly a direct quote. In retrospect, it would have been more tactful to say "in the words of ODB, 'Nigga please'. ." I really did think it was more acceptable than perhaps it apparently is. Did you ever see that bit on the Chris Rock show and the sketch about the cereal called "Nigga please"? It's kind of a dumb comedy bit, but it just points out the mainstream acceptability of that particular expression. Oh well.... And if he imitates the best I guess that's what I'll try 2 be And I will let the rest dissolve with my guitar underneath the sea So your final answer... Will you continue to use the word and if so, will you use it in front of a black person? Just curious.

And by the way, I didn't say that I never notice if someone has light or dark skin....but I notice it largely the same way that I notice if someone is tall or short, or has blonde hair or black hair. I'm just not totally OBSESSED with it like some people are.

so u use the term "nigga please" when talking to white folks as well? Not saying u don't just askin. Well, I said it on here, so I was talking to everyone, regardless of skin color. But sure, I might say it when talking about a caucasian person. They just play that little sound clip of ODB a lot on Howard Stern and it has been burned into my consciousness. It runs through my head sometimes when I see somebody on TV saying something crazy, regardless of what the persons's ethnic background is. It's just a funny expression the way ODB used it. He was addressing a bunch of reporters in a press conference and cursing up a storm and it was just funny. Oh well, if you haven't heard that clip, you don't know what I mean and I probably shouldn't have assumed that it would be taken by everyone as I understand it. But it would probably even be funnier if directed towards a white person, so sure I might use it in the right company.

Well I can't totally fault you for thinking the word can be "funny" since it's sold to you that way by many in the hip hop culter. But trust me, that word is never funny coming from a white person. Just too much history behind it no matter if you mean it that way or not. I'm no going to beat a dead horse so I'll leave it there. You seem open to somewhat understanding it wasn't cool and at least that's better than nothing. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

But I can respect that some people don't find it funny at all. But the bottom line is that I see no reason to unnecessarily irritate or offend people, so I sure won't use the word "nigga" in any context on this site unless it is a direct quote and attributed as such. I am certainly open to understanding that it annoyed some people (just like Tavis annoyed me), so no reason for me to go there again. . Things that are worth discussing should be discussed regardless of the original topic. I guess we should have just "stayed in our place" and not have reacted when an N-Bomb was dropped. getthafuckouttaherewiththatbullshit! Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Well, they should have been discussed but maybe in the non-Prince area. But I was too lazy to move the discussion over there and I don't know if it would have worked anyway.

How many MORE times in Tavis going to TRY to bring up "the name change" How many more times is he going to think it is funny?????
Can we all move past that? You would assume a REPORTER would do research on Prince's past answer on this??? How about a Reporter who says he is a Fan!!!

RupertZ said: First, he over enunciates every syllable like his life depended on it.
Second, he asks dumb questions and begs like a little bitch for Prince to come back on the show. Third, what kind of name is Tavis? I hope he doesn't love his mother too much after that. Has she ever heard of the letter "r"...nigga, please... Well, he seems to be a big Prince fan, so at least he's got that going for him. ..... NOTE: The expression "nigga, please" is a quote from ODB of the Wu Tang Clan and is not meant to harm, offend, or otherwise unsettle any sensitive readers.. . . [This message was edited Fri Feb 20 13:31:08 2004 by RupertZ] r u 4 real? tavis is the man he showed prince the respect he deserves the questions asked were on point and by the way, the phrase, 'nigga please', is only used between brothas who are down with each other u dig? u seem lost on this point
