guys,
this song is so rotten.
it sounds totally outdated.

i am so sick of being disappointed with his new stuff.

how much longer do we have to wait until we hear something interesting from him?

seriously, if any other artist came out with this song, we wouldnt be hearing about how great it is.

come on, prince.....

you talked about "challenging your audience"...
well, we are up for the challenge,,
im wondering if you are.....

i meant "superstar" as in Top 40 mass-appeal, but whatevs....

So you put the label "superstar" on Brittney and Ruben, but not on Prince? I think you need a better word there. If you're talking top 40 radio, Prince will be back this year.

i'm not up for discussing semantics today...but in my world Prince is a superstar (no quotes) but in the current mass of popular culture he isn't a "superstar"

and whether or not Prince lands on top 40 this year, I could care less. 98% of what I listen to isn't on top 40 radio. BUT, it seems Prince is aiming for this and after a decade of occasionally shooting for this and WIDELY missing his mark, I won't believe it till it has happened.

Well, it the last decade, Prince has only really tried for commercial success twice. Once with Emancipation - who knows what that would have done had it not been for the tragic death of his child on just before it was released. The second time with Rave, which was doomed when Clive Davis was fired the day it was released.

This time around, the pieces all seem to be in place for a significant comeback. We'll all know in a matter of weeks.

everyone is entitled to their personal opinion. "Prince is back"? the man never left. Is the fans that faded away. I have loved every era of Prince, for very different reasons. I love him for who his is. His talents, his creativity, his thoughts, etc. One of the reasons why i adore this man is because everytime i hear his music, i feel it from the tip of my toes to my head. I always get a very good sensation. No other artist has every been able to do this to me. His musical talent is so overwhelming, that I beleive if you are a true fan, you will learn to accept that his music comes from within. And he has changed dramatically during the years. He cant please everyone, but he can share what he is feeling through his music. So dont beat the man up, just appriciate that he still makes music and shares it with us biggrin

Stop this right now.

Hmm.. I haven't heard Musicology yet.

BUT I do know EvilWhiteMale's opinion of it.... 12 seperate posts in only 2 threads about how crappy Reflection and Musicology both are....

OK we get it. Thanks for the input.

Maybe you should make another 12 posts about how crappy they are, just in case somebody missed it.

O.k here it is!
I finally saw and heard the video that everyone
is talking about on the web. Trust me!!!
Until you hear this song on a quality stereo like
I did when they filmed the video, that little portion does not
do the song justice. Trust me!!!
When your hear the bass and feel the vibe, all of the
negitive folks will change their mind. I would bet your life on it.

I finally heard that Musicology clip everyone's been talking about, and I was totally surprised.

Some were saying it sounded like The Work, but it really didn't sound like that AT ALL to me.

It was a funky, fun, catchy song that had me moving.

I can't wait to hear the rest of it.

The thing is though, will it be able to appeal to ppl without a catchy chorus that so many Prince songs are famous for?
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Why is every1 comparing it 2 the work? Sounds m,uch more like something off "Come" 2 me - say the title track? That was his most stripped-down JB phase, and seems he';s goin' back there.

It sounds like a cool, quality song, but too derivative 2 b truly exciting. Do the lyrics and the feel remind any1 of JCM's "R.O.C.K. in the USA"?

"And don't forget James Brown...."
"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

well, I just got to hear the clip of the song that was premiered on the Tavis Smiley show and I am really disappointed...it sounds like something off the "High" album, like "my medallion" or even "Pretty Man", only worse ...It sounds very uninspired to me, mediocre, and that´s the worst thing that can be said about Prince music...

I suppose I got to really lower my hopes for the new album, that way I might be pleasantly surprised neutral

MUSICOLOGY IS OK, BUT SORRY TO HAVE TO SAY THAT IT IS TOTALLY UNITERESTING, LIFELESS, AND EVEN A LITTLE BORING. IT HAS NO CHANCE TO BE PLAYED IN HEAVY ROTATION ON THE RADIO.

ALL THAT COME BACK REALLY SOUNDS LIKE RAVE PT2, UNLESS SOME REAL HITS HAVE BEEN PRODUCED BY SOMEONE ELSE (LET'S FACE IT, EVEN THOUGH PRINCE REMAINS AN AMAZING COMPOSER AND MUSICIAN, HE IS COMPLETELY WASHED UP AS A PRODUCER...LAGGING ABOUT 10 YEARS BEHIND EVERYONE IN USING NEW MACHINES TO PRODUCE NEW SOUNDS...IRONIC FOR SOMEONE WHO USED TO BE FAMOUS FOR SETTING SOUND TRENDS....)

A NEPTUNES REMIX WOULD BE MORE THAN WELCOME, THERE MUST BE ONE TO KEEP THAT SONG AFLOAT....

Some of you seem to be missing the obvious. The singles are NEVER the best music on the record.
Lets Go Crazy is not the best song on P.R.
Kiss is not the best song on Parade.
U Got the Look is not the best song on SOTT., etc.....

The singles are meant to get your attention to buy the record and listen to the undiscovered gems.

YOU TOOL TIME NUTJOBS HEAR A SONG ONE TIME and have charted out the career of this album from initial week of sales to cutout bin to frizbee to "the record that crashed Prince's Career".

Holy smoke this place is jaded.

Now excuse me, I'm going to listen to Dirty Mind.

IMO, I think Musicology the song is good, not anything more or less. I will have to hear the new album ENTIRELY to make up my mind! Its kind of like when "The Work" was released and talk of TRC started! Like ok, let me hear it from start to finish. I'll also give the songs more of a real listen when the cd drops vs a 2 minute listen!!!

I have a feeling Musicology, like The Work before it, will be one of the lesser songs on its album. As a funk jam, it's not even as good as 1+1+1=3 before it. But then again, I'll have to hear the whole song in stereo quality. I think this definitely could be a really good album, though. Like TRC was. Only more commercial. It seems like Prince has spent a lot of time on it, and he wants to promote it and get the public to hear it. I think we'll all be pleased with the end result of this album....

The difference is that those songs were excellent and stood on their own. Musicology doesn't have to be the best track on the album, but it would be nice if it was at least good. Unfortunately it sucks dick.
