Outkast & Alicia Keys to induct Prince Billboard is reporting that both Outkast and Alicia Keys will induct Prince next month. That's a great touch I feel.

That's great, in my opinion. They are both 'hip' and still a little 'alternative' black acts with mainstream succes, just like Prince in the 80's. Obviously Prince's new record company is trying to "hip" Prince again by associating Prince with the 'cool' acts of today and uses the big yearly musicbizz events (Grammy's and RnR Hall of Fame) to Put Prince in the spotlights again.
I really think 2004 might become a great year for Prince and his music. Although I don't mind Prince being an indie artist, I think his music is still good enough to be heard by a broad audience. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

While I enjoy both Outkast and Miss Keys, he should be introduced or "inducted" by a legend.
Miss Khan, Mr. Clinton Miss LaBelle How about we start there? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Miss Khan, Mr. Clinton Miss LaBelle How about we start there? I agree. A good compromise could have been picking someone who saw him from Day 1, like Stevie Wonder (who presented him a Lifetime Achievement Award before, Soul Train or Essence, I think) AND someone new who's inspired by his latest stuff, such as India Irie, Alicia Keys or OutKast.

They are usually done by current artists arn't they?

That's EXACTLY how they should've done it. I'd even go further and say they should have found someone among his peers who is a big fan, something like that. If not Stevie though, I think Patti LaBelle would've been great. But... everyone seems to want to compare Andre3000 from OutKast to Prince, which is laughable. I mean they're one of my faves in hip hop, but...plEEase.. What's cool is that OutKast is poised to do something special and whether or not they actually come through, it'll be impossible for their fans not to see Prince as a major influence on Dre...if they haven't already. ********************************************

See, see???? I had said to you all a long time ago that Outkast may be one of the acts out of my list to induct Prince into the Hall of Fame. Now, while I am happy that they are doing this, it just does seem odd. But I guess that now they're considered by many to be the heirs to Prince's throne, I guess it's justifiable.
But come on now, Alicia Keys? That's what pissed me off. I mean, she inducted Issac Hayes in 2002 which I already thought was odd, but I think they're doing this because she's been on Prince's schlong, like, FOREVER!!!!! I would've liked it better if somebody like Lenny Kravitz, Sananda whateverthefuckheisnow, or Beck inducted him. But, hold on folks. Nothing is definite yet. So I'm not going to jump to any conclusions yet. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I'm glad to see that Outkast and Alicia Keys will be inducting Prince. It should be good and I look forward to seeing the results on March 21st. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
