Alicia Keys and OutKast will induct Prince in Hall of Fame

http://www.billboard.com/...id=2095781

Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys and Tom Petty are among the artists who will be on hand to induct the 2004 class into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. A longtime supporter of the Hall and 1999 inductee into the elite group of honored musicians, Springsteen will introduce Jackson Browne at this year's event.

Dave Matthews will do the honors for Traffic, while Petty and Jeff Lynne will induct their Traveling Wilburys bandmate George Harrison. Keys will be joined by hip-hop duo OutKast to welcome Prince, while Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, himself a Hall of Famer since 1989, will be on hand to enshrine ZZ Top.

As previously reported, Steve Winwood has pledged that Traffic will perform at the event, as has inductee Bob Seger.

Also set to be inducted is harmony soul act the Dells and, as a non-performer, Rolling Stone publisher Jaan S. Wenner.

The ceremony will take place March 15 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, and will be taped for a VH1 special that will premiere March 21 on the music channel.

Ugh, Alicia Keys. My worst fears are realized. She shouldn't be inducting OUTKAST, let alone Prince.

That's funny...I could've sworn Alica's new album has been praised by multiple critics as being a great piece of work.

how could it NOT be lenny kavitz or santanna. better yet , why not have james brown, george clinton, sly stone, stevie wonder , and a member of the hendrix family do a multiple presentation. like, "you done good kid and now you can come and claim your rightful place beside us, " that would be something great to see.

To Moneymade, ibstrollin and jarrett - What's wrong with Alicia Keys? Can't sing? Are you confusing her with the Florida Keys? Or did she turn you down?

Good. I like Alicia's music. I find her to be more original than OutKast. She's keeping it real. Andre is desperatly trying to be an amalgam of Prince, Sly Stone and George Clinton. The only thing I applaud about OutKast is that they are like a rainbow in a monochrome hip-hop world.

You managed to slap Andre...uh, I mean "Outkast" AND the entire genre of rap in the face at the same time. I guess you're proud of yourself. Nevermind the host of musicians that went into the studio to make the Outkast double CD happen and nevermind that there is a HUGE spectrum of rap ranging from bands like Twizted to bands like Black Eyed Peas to harder edged artists like Coremega, RZA and Westside Connection. (YES! technically, even Rage Against The Machine IS RAP!). I guess all rap is the same, though rolleyes Alicia & Outkast are both fitting to induct Prince. Alicia covered a tune and Andre is a fan. It fits.
Its funny how so many so-called "fans" on this site have a FIT about mainstream media generalizing Prince as just a pop artist, yet so few yield respect for artists outside of Prince.

Well, maybe I said all this because I don't like rap. My opinion is based on what I get to see and hear in the top something countdowns of BET, MTV and VH1. How often have you seen music videos by Black Eyed Peas, Coremega, RZA, Westside Connection, and Rage Against the Machine? Did I come off as a snob? Is that why you are asking me whether I am proud of myself?

I'm saying that a lot of work goes into even the lamest of CDs. I respect EVERY artists' work, whether I like the material or not. I can't stand more than half the music I hear these days, but I respect the work that goes into making a CD. Its not easy nor is it a "short n' sweet" process.
Black Eyed Peas are in heavy rotation these days now that they've added the Playboy Princess-looking blonde vocalist (but, I digress). I LISTEN to music. Music videos are a distraction. Fun, but they sometimes act as a crutch for a song. I spend more time with my ears and less with my eyes when it comes to music. Rap is as large of a genre as R&B, country or any other form of music. Its not nice to generalize. That's all.

Yep. My moment of Hall of Fame glory and I want James "Pass the PCP" Brown, George "Flash Pipe" Clinton, accompanied by Sylvester "Free-Based Out Of My Mind" Stewart at the podium?
How 'bout we save them for the ODB induction, O.K.?

Prince likes 'Falling' , he's sang it numerous times in the last couple of years usually incorporating 'The One'.

I think it's pretty good that they're looking at people he's supposedly influenced rather than the other way round.

Congratulations to Prince!!!! I do know that Alicia Keys really digs him. You don't need a great spirit of discernment to figure that much out. Alicia recorded "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?" and in that particular video she was even allowed to use the same backdrop that The Time used when they toured with Prince and Vanity 6. At one of the award shows I watched, she presented an award wearing a Prince T-shirt. They LIKE each other. If they like each other, then what's YOUR problem? Come on people....don't Hate Love...Hate HATE!! God Bless!
