What Prince song best describes Prince in a nutshell and why? If you had to play only one song for someone who never has heard of Prince to best describe him what woul it be and why?
I am gonna go with "When Doves Cry" (as generic as that may be to hard core fans.) It has a little bit of everything that makes Prince what he is. It is danceable and catchy, yet experimental and unique sounding. It displays his vocal abilities and his studio skills. It is produced, composed, written by Prince alone. It displays intregal elements of the "Minneapolis Sound". It's lyrics are clever, sexy, sad, dark, yet somewhat hopeful. What do ya'll think? "New Power slide...."

'If I Was Ur Girlfriend'.
For many of the same reasons you chose 'When Doves Cry'. It's simply Prince at his best. Only he could have made this track. This track more than any other encapsulates what his music is about. If you play this to someone and they don't like it, then you can be sure that they'll never be a fan of Prince's music. It's a love or hate affair with this song, just as it is with Prince himself. "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

I've always thought "Strange Relationship" was very descriptive of him. I'm firmly planted in denial
