Prince worst critics are his fans It seems like everybody loved NEWS except 4 the fans. Non fans appreciated the effort more then us so called fans did, which brought me 2 my next conclusion... that Prince gets his worst critiques from his fans, that's why I think he does a lot of what he do, cuz he probably feelin' like he ain't getting the support any ways so what's the difference ?

I get the impression that he doesn't really care what we think, and at this stage, why should he?
For the record, I'm a fan and I love N.E.W.S. I'm not the only one either. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

It's easy to throw rocks at a glass house.Prince became a glass house when he started to open up to his fans a couple of years back.If he continued to be "mysterious" the fans would not be as harsh.
Another person who "hangs out" here is the faux fan which is just here to stir up controversy and confusion and they will not like anything that Prince does until "everyone" else likes it too.

So true. THese people are not worth attention. THey thrive on upsetting fans with negativity. Prince is above the critics and negative reviews because he is trying to do something true to the heart and music - not just get paid from cursing or getting naked. Haters want this because society has conditioned them to value this over real art and talent. The older that Prince gets, the more he seems to emphasize this more substantial perspective on his work. He is criticized for being JW or for being friends with Larry because people want to hear Head or Do Me, Baby re-hashed over and over again. It is not happening. Prince doesn worry about record sales and critics - true fans dont either ...cause FACE said so!!!

I really don't know how to word this but I'll just say I don't criticize anything or anyone I don't care about. Anything I post here, I would say to him to his face.

I have been a fan for all 26 years and have been in the club since the beginning and if we are 'fam' or 'friends' as Prince put it, then I should be able to express my thoughts to him.

I think real Prince fans are intelligent people with better things to do than hang around these boards all day commentin on every little f**n thing there is.
Boards are mostly used to critize not to compliment. And if there's a compliment someone always knows to burn that opinion down. But.....I dont post very often...but its pretty funny readin....y'all gettin so worked up over nothin... --- Where am I? ---

Yes definitely Prince's harshest critics are on the internet.
When I first got my internet access 6 years ago one of the first posts I read was a fan's review of the just released Crystal Ball set. This person totally trashed Crystal Ball - couldn't find enough good material to fill one disc let alone three discs. I was surprised harshness of the review. Little did I know that was & still is the norm.

When TRC was "previewed" at the 2001 Celebration, several posts appeared bashing the album. The same people went back everyday until the celebration was over.
WHY ? I still do not understand. If I was as offended as those people I would never buy anything Prince released. They come here everyday. Crazy .

Crazy . i wasn't at all impressed with the lyrics of TRC and i expressed that opinion here after the listening party. and i feel like someone said above - there's nothing i've said here i wouldn't say right to the man's face, if he'd listen. which he won't. i think it's good that people express negative as well as positive impressions because in my opinion prince needs to have people around him who will honestly tell him when something needs a bit more work, like those arguably 'racist' lyrics on TRC and The Moors which, if worked on a bit longer, could have conveyed the same point without also stirring up so much confusion over their vague content

No-one knows the career of Prince (from an outside perspective) better than his fans.
I think the critique from long-time fans is worth much more than any reviewer or media personality. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

I think the critique from long-time fans is worth much more than any reviewer or media personality. I have to agree with romance here. Considering his position in the minds of the musiclistening audience of today, it should be considered an honor that some still care enough about what Prince publishes. As far as NEWS goes; you have fans, and they all like some of prince's music here and there, and some like it all. In any case, they are all people who care about the music so that whenever they feel left down or are amazed by some of his stuff, you will get the extreme views, and anything in between, right where the fans all meet up. The forums. There is no shame in being critical as long as people don't end up saying unfounded crap. The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy.
