This thread is all about the legendary "Triple Threat Tour" OK, so having gotten the pleasure to own a copy of this video recently ( don't tell nobody ), I was inspired to create this thread. Now, I'm expecting an assload of posts on here. Do not hesitate to stae your opinion about this legendary moment in time. If you saw the video, what did you think of it? If you actually went to see it, tell me what you thought about it. Hell, if you were even apart of the tour, I'm sure you could dish out some dirt to us orgers about that experience.
Now I saw the video and I just thought it was sooooo cool! Vanity 6 was awesome. What they lacked in talent, they more than made up for in sexiness. And damn, did The Time know how to lay down them grooves. They were behind the curtains providing us with the ass-shakin' funk, as you might know by now. Best act out of the 3, IMO: Morris Day and the TIME!!!!! They came out with the fly suits and cool style to hit us with the Funk/Rock gooves. The best part: Gigolos Get Lonely Too. Jerome sets up a dinner table and invites a lady from the audience for a sip of champagne. That was sooooo cool. And then just when I thought they were done after they killed it with "Cool", they came back to show everyone how to do "The Walk". Now you know they couldn't leave without teaching us how to do The Walk. Now, Prince.....well, need I say more? I mean the lights went down, the venetian blinds, risers, ramps, and all that stuff comes out and SHOWTIME. Prince rises out of nowhere with the the smoke billowing and rips into "Contorversy". It was OFF THA CHAAAAAIIIINNN!!!!! But while it was all very good, it all just seemed to fly by to me. I mean, I was still trying to absorb the funk left over from The Time. But Prince and his Revolution was doing his thang tho'. The highlight: "Howcome U Don't Call Me Anymore". Prince is at the piano putting his heart & soul into the music and going buckwild in the process, so much that his bodyguard, Chick comes to rescue him. It was a trip, yo, for real. And whoo-hooo did the band know how to lay down some grooves too, like "Lady Cab Driver" and "Let's Work". They upgraded their sound too, moving towards Synth-pop and Electro-funk which was the thing that was happening (New Wave Forever!). But all & all, this was a cool show, and although I wish I was there at that time (I was just a newborn though, so that would'nt've been possible) I'm granted the opportunity to see it again for the first time (whatever that means). So in this thread I wanna talk about the music, the magic, the drama behind it all (I know some of y'all read about it. It's been well documented in one particular book, D.M.S.R.), and THE FUNK!!!!! Now, who else got to experience the witnessing of the legendary "Triple Threat Tour"? NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

And I don't know if I'm capable of supplying your demand. For future reference, that sort of thing should be discussed with me in private. And yes, BanishedDude, They killed it on Lady Cab Driver. See, that's what I loved about Prince: he could get funky as hell in one moment, then he and his other guitarist could rip it up with the distortion in the next. I was at the show at the 'Arena' or it may have been called the Checkerdome back then. I was 13 and my older cousin took me and another cousin. It's funny because I remember the show being so much tamer than what I was expecting. At school there were kids talking about how Prince had 'sex on stage' during the concert. And I actually believed that shit.
I had trouble seeing thru most of the show because almost all of the seats were on the floor and everybody stood up on their chairs during The Time and Prince's performances. I also remembered thinking that The Time were much better than Prince....

Wow!
My very first Prince concert. Kalamazoo, Michigan. March 13th 1983. I had gotten into "Controversy" after seeing the CASETTE! on the floor of my friend's house. Who the #@*%! is that guy with the makeup and new wave look?? Is he Black???? ...I was 16, my friend said to borrow it...add some headphones, some Jack U Off, some Private Joy, I was hooked! It was about the time that The Time's first album was out and then the singles: 1999, Little Red Corvette and the new album: 1999! Fan for life. This sh*t was the biggest thing ever in my high school in Michigan. U cant understand if u didnt live through it just how "revolutionary" this music was. So, when the tour came to town, it had to be done. Vanity 6's album on top of it all. We didn't know at the time that all this music was essentially Prince but there were rumours flying around that Jamie Starr was him. The show is a fading memory, I'm afraid. But I do rememeber Jesse Johnson's Pink Suit! The Time indeed stole the show and the feeling was that Prince just played songs for too damn long and was a little weird..lol! Oh and Vanity 6 throwing bananas into the crowd cracked us up for days! We were amazed at the little guy's agility and grasshopper like quality as he bounded from one end of the stage to another jumping off of (seemingly) 2-story speakers onto the stage in high heels and doing spins and splits at the drop of a dime. (ahh...remeber those days?) And of course HCUDCMA...heaven! I'm glad I saw it, to say the least and I've seen him some 15 odd times since (all since 1988 as I missed the Purple Rain tour!! And Parade...Long story). But that show will always be a cherished memeory no matter how dim it may be. Thanks for bringing it up. Oh, and about that tape you have..... Purplehead

So, can someone out there explain the madness that occured backstage? It was almost like what Zeppelin used to do backstage. You know, the parties, the food fights, the drama. Come on, dish it out, you guys. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

So I was watching it again this morning and, yes, Sexuality did rock my socks off. It was that funky slice of New Wave/Electro-Pop that I love. I loved the lighting too. Roy Bennett gets mad props. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Have I read correctly that the total time on this whole concert is only 65 minutes? If so, they sure jammed a lot into 65 minutes. I know a couple of people who have this concert but I'm kinda scared to get a copy since my Houston shows kinda lack in picture quality. But then again; my copies were made over 10 years ago. Has the quality of what's been circulating improved? My name is Prince and I want your money
