Think being a fan back then was bad?

Try being in high school rocking Lovesexy when it came out. Prince butt-nekkid on the album cover . . .

I to was in high school at the time he decided to be naked on the cover of his lovesexy cd. What can I say?, any p fan in high school at that time either bailed or stuck it out. I stuck it out only to have more explaining to do a few years later with his infamous yellow cheeckless pants booty! . I'm in to deep now, I'll probly be a fan no matter what he does. I'm with senshy <-----super-trooper cool

Never lied. But I try to hang with more open-minded folks anyway. It's OK to not like the man or even really hate him. But not OK to slam folks who DO like him.

But gee, I DID keep butt-naked Prince CD covers out of my parents' sight in high school. Lord my mom busted a gasket the first time I brought a Prince CD home.

I've never had to lie about being a Prince Fan. When everyone else starts to think that he's cool, it's bandwagon mentality. This will pass too, and I'll still be a Prince fan.

I never lied about being a fan. I may have had to explain myself a bit more than I wanted to and I still have to sometimes but I knew early why he changed his name, so if anyone had a problem with it then they were the ones missing out and sometimes I told them that.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

No way - when the symbol album came out, he was still a big deal among all my friends in college, whether they liked him or not, really...I remember when he had those late night specials on ABC, everyone was abuzz about 'em, either excited to see them or all, "what's the freak gonna do NOW?" Of course, I was in Indiana, where Prince was more or less considered "alternative"...

It was tough being a Prince fan while going to a redneck high school.
Everyone else was into Hank Williams, Jr.
But I still never lied about it though.

hey I told the truth..

Just like Snoop Doggy Dog is a OWNED Name by Death Row (which now he has to go by Snoop Dog)

&

I believe Eric Serman from EPMD had to change his name to something because the record company owned his god given name.

Prince had to do the samething..IF he wanted to record outside of his record contract.

Well, not really, but it's more interesting than saying "I wasn't a Prince fan 'til 2002" for the umpteenth time.

no, I never lied, even when I was afraid to tell people I was a fan. I took a lot of shit before, and during the symbol period. But the symbol period was pretty hard....that was a looooong seven years, man disbelief...and that's why I say, hell, if you're a fan who made it through that, sheeeit...you can handle anything! wink

Nope, never lied. The Symbol thing had me shaking my head right along with a lot of other people but I still claimed him. Being a fan back then is nothing compared to being a fan now. I had a room full of people laugh at me Sunday night when I told them I was in Prince's fanclub.
