When exactly did Patrice Rushen join Prince's band and how long did she stayed in there?

She didn't really join his band.

He had remained in touch with her following her work with him some 10 years earlier, and although Prince hoped she would join the band he was assembling, she simply put in the keyboard appearance for the live SNL anniversary broadcast.

The line-up also including Candy Dulfer and Margie Cox, even though they too were never considered members of his group at the time.

That was a great performance but if I recall correctly, they didn't show a close-up of Patrice. I had no idea who that was on the keyboard until I read about it in 'Controversy' magazine couple of months later (Ha! Remember those days?!?)

Memories of 1989 .cool

Does anyone know if that song was played to hype a single release of Electric Chair ?
Missed one Hell of an opportunity by not releasing that song.

Harli, you need to see it .

In 1989, 'Batdance ' had been released on June 9th and was followed by 'Partyman' on September 15, before the live SNL anniversary performance on September 24.

The subsequent release was 'The Arms Of Orion' on October 16, with 'Scandalous' on November 28.

The remixes of 'The Future' and 'Electric Chair' were released as a single in Europe in 1990.

Lange, I was worried that you wouldn't be able to come up with some solid stats. Whew!

I saw him play this on SNL - it was on their 25th anniversary show. I didn't know it was Patrice playing either.

It would have been great if Patrice had joined Prince's band on a full-time scale. She would have taken over the spot that was eventually given to Rosie Gaines.

Interestingly,a year before the Prince gig,Patrice joined a band that was formed by Carlos Santana. The band consisted of Carlos,Miles Davis,Wayne Shorter and Patrice.Although they never got to do a full-fledged tour,Carlos has promised that he will release some of the stuff they recorded.
