This is my consistent top 3 since 2001 (in no particular order):

Dirty Mind
Parade
The Rainbow Children

Also great are: Black Album, 1999, SOTT, Controversy, Prince.

The rest of his albums aren't consistent enough, eventhough all of them contain a few "diamonds & pearls"...
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

smile I kno that i am horribly younger than the majority of the "seasoned" prince fans. But to choose a top 3 of albums is incredibly hard as is choosing a top 25 of songs but i agree with all of the albums listed. cool

We all know how hard this question can be. Well I'm going to cheat by using my own rules. I'm going with certian eras in Prince's evolution! I'm goint use some assumptions and stretches to pull this off biggrin

1999 era - Having the 1999 double album (I had to hide from parents after bringing Controversy into the house. No, I didn't put up the poster insert!). We all know Prince wrote, The Time's - What time is it and Vanity 6's album. One was awesome summer. FUNKY!

Sign of the TImes to Lovesexy - A true renaissance. He wrote the funkiest, jazziest, soulful music of his career. This is really cheating. There was probably enough material for 8 records.

I like the Around the World In A Day call, gutsy, I also included Prince in my top 3 but Around is such an eclectic mix of great tunes often overlooked amongst 1999, PR, and Sign. I Salute you and your great choices.

nod this is what i was thinking as i was scrolling
through this thread.
Of course it IS difficult (& fun) to try to break it
down to just 3. I wanted to have Lovesexy in there.
and The Rainbow Children. Hell, even Purple Rain.
When you step back from Rurple Rain, you can
tell that it is a ~really~ cool album..... but so is
Parade (especially if you include the b-sides &
12" versions, right? nod )
thank you Prince for so many awesome albums! woot!
