IS THERE A PRINCE EQUAL?? when it comes to writing music, performing, originality, multi-instruments, choreograghing. when it comes to sheer funk and staying power. Is there anybody who even comes close to prince? Music flows from within him and funk pours out of him. He truly loves and feels what he does. Again to everybody out there prince fan or not, is there any musician that comes close? [This message was edited Fri Feb 13 5:24:17 PST 2004 by rojeanla]

Prince has no equals
Though, I have to say Roger Troutman with a bit more lyrical depth, could have come close ********************************************

Yeah, Jimi was a MF on the piano...
The answer clearly is NO, there was never, or is ever, going to be another OVERALL talent like Prince. He's heaven-sent...enjoy! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

There are equals in different fields
Little Richard - Class & Showmanship James Brown - Dancing & Yelping Jimi - The odd occasion Prince Rips into guitar But he plays all these parts very well for a single performer

This is such an ignorant statement. There are many people out there with equal or even more talent on the same accounts. Prince was just lucky and came out at the right time with the right concept.

He was very influential and innovative with the sounds he has created, but Jimi wasn`t really that much of a great guitar player. Everbody I know who has worked with him says that.

In terms of musicianship, production, song-writing, prolificty and innovation, Frank Zappa wins hands-down. But he wasn't the multi-instrumentalist and showman that Prince is. But he certainly waxed Prince on guitar and his complex arrangments and composition far outweight most things Prince has done.
David Bowie and Stevie Wonder are other considerations but, when it comes to finding someone who is the whole shebang like Prince, its very difficult indeed. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I agree I think Jimi's Guitar playing is overratted and at times kinda messy I do agree-but as a person Jimi is more interesting 2 watch say in an interview or when he totally fucks up the stage in the Isle of Wight. Nobody can touch Jimi as an all round rock n' roll, hippy nutter who grows his hair smokes Ganga on stage and is the definition of a guitar playin' freak -GOD BLESS JIMI

Kinda shallow, if you ask me.

When I was in my teens, I used to say, "no." Ironically, after exposing myself to several of Prince's influences and re-examining some of the music of my childhood, as well as exploring the world of jazz, I say emphatically, "yes." To the question of whether there are artists superior to him, again the answer is "yes." But there is no doubt in my mind that Prince is the greatest popular music artist of his generation, arguably the greatest since Hendrix. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Y'all better peep Jshua (Styles) over at the org Musician Hangout. Check out his cut Welcome To Life. He plays all the instruments and sings.
I imagine this to be what Prince would sound like today if he had stayed with Wendy & Lisa. Yeah... it's that good. [This message was edited Fri Feb 13 17:43:08 PST 2004 by marcdeondotcom]

But regarding to a Bowie's fan or Zappa's fan, probably not It's always difficult to be honest and fair in that kind of thread. But 4 most of us here he's probably the big mothafucker in da place and obviously, 4 so many reasons, this genius dwarf is really outstanding like nobody. Peace 2 everybody and sorry 4 my english !
